My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, friends! My name is Dolly Ann and I'm searching for my perfect forever home. After you hear a little about me, you’ll understand what I mean by that and why it’s so important that we’re a good fit for each other.

When we were pups, my sister and I lived with someone who isolated us, didn't love us, pet us, or talk kindly to us. It was very scary and lonely. Then one day, a stranger came and took us away and brought us to a big shelter in the city, but that place was scary, too! After a life of quiet and darkness, the sounds and the lights and the people in the shelter…it was overwhelming, and we were put on the euthanasia list. See, the shelter just didn’t have the resources to care for scared dogs like us. So, @The Pet Connection and @Pawsitive Tails teamed up to save us and work their magic.

For over four years, I’ve been passed over time and again. Am I not pretty enough? That cannot be it because I AM pretty and I’m a great size, too! I’m about 45 pounds and healthy as a horse! People ask me what breed I am, and I don't know what that means, but I've heard my friends say I might be "setter and shepherd," which sounds good to me!

The truth is, I’m kinda shy when I meet new people, but I'm sweet and loving once I know we’re friends. "Best friends to the end" is what I’m looking for! You just need to give me a chance to love you.

Do you have a dog already? I would really like to have a doggo friend in my new home. Dogs put me at ease, give me confidence. I'm really good free roaming in the house while you're gone. Just put up a baby gate where you'd like me to stay and I'm all set! I love to be in my comfy bed snoozing away.
I’m housetrained so no worries there. A fenced yard would be ideal because I love to explore. I’m also good on a leash, but I don’t need a daily walk if you’ve got a yard! I also enjoy hanging out, chewing on my bones, surrounded by my stuffies. No cats for me, please. No one has yet been able to explain those felines to me.

Think we might be good for each other? Call or text The Pet Connection at 913-671-7387. I'm in Beloit, KS, but transport is available to the right home!

More about this rescue

Since 1999, The Pet Connection has found homes for more than 7,000 animals and rehabilitated hundreds of dogs and cats with aggression, fear and anxiety issues. We have spayed or neutered over 8,000 dogs and cats in our own free and low-cost clinics since 2002 and assisted another 5,800 pets with low-cost services since 2006. The Pet Connection was founded in 1999 in Mission, Kansas, to offer shelter for homeless pets, adoptions and training. We were one of the first no-kill advocacy groups in the Kansas City metro area and the first cage-free facility in Johnson County to offer education about available spay and neuter programs. In 2006, The Pet Connection relocated to a facility in Mission that enabled all dogs and cats to have their own rooms while awaiting adoptive homes or being rehabilitated due to behaviors that hindered adoption prospects. The Pet Connection currently focuses on pet adoptions, dog and cat training, aggressive dog rehabilitation, and classes for pet owners. We were the first in this area to offer free training/behavior classes to adopters.

The Pet Connection trainers and behavior members use a team approach in order to implement the ideas that have the highest success rate. Our five behavioral trainers working out of the Kansas City metro have a variety of backgrounds applicable to dog training and behavior. The Pet Connection implements positive reinforcement training methods, where the dog learns to face the trigger, but to respond appropriately. Read about our experienced trainers under “Meet the Team" on our website at www.thepetconnection.net.

The Pet Connection has always been committed to being no-kill advocates. We have been involved in many projects with local and national organizations to help Kansas City progress in how homeless pets are cared for and to improve the services that they receive. Our organization is a 501c3 charity in the state of Kansas, and has always provided thousands of dollars worth of supplies, including cat litter, food, toys, beds and dog houses, to other rescues and shelters.
