My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Boo: The Independent and Gentle Spirit

Introducing Boo, a unique and dignified cat who’s looking for a special home to call her own. Boo arrived at the shelter declawed and is now seeking a loving environment where she can feel comfortable and secure.

Boo has a refined and independent personality. She’s not a fan of being picked up, preferring to keep her paws on the ground and her space respected. Because of her declawed status, she’s especially sensitive to handling and would benefit from a home where she can have control over her interactions.

Boo is best suited to an adult-only household where she can enjoy a calm and predictable routine. She prefers to be the only pet, as she thrives in a quiet, single-pet environment where she can focus on forming a bond with her human companions.

If you’re looking for a gentle and low-maintenance companion who values her personal space, Boo might be the perfect match for you. Come meet Boo and discover how her independent spirit can enrich your life with her quiet grace and companionshipAll cats and dogs adopted from the Chequamegon Humane Association are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped. Dogs are tested for heartworm. A minimum adoption fee of $175 is required for adult dogs, puppy adoption fees start $250, and dogs over the age of 10 are $85. Adult cat adoption fees are $50, kittens under one year are $120, and cats over the age of 10 are $35.

The Chequamegon Humane Association depends on the generous contributions from donors like you. Because of you, we are able to rescue and re-home hundreds of animals like this one every year!

ABOUT US
CHA serves as a temporary safe haven for homeless animals from Ashland and Bayfield Counties.
OUR MISSION
To promote and support the humane treatment of animals in the Chequamegon Bay area.
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Picture
Initially volunteers ran CHA (or CAL - Chequamegon Animal League- as it was then known) out of their homes until a parcel of land was obtained from the City of Ashland on Old Airport Road. The current building was constructed in two phases: The indoor/outdoor dog runs came first and the cat room and office were added at a later date. Up until the mid-1990’s, there was no preventative care given to the cats and dogs adopted out; no vaccines were given and the animals were not spayed or neutered. The average annual budget was around $10,000/year, most of which came from Ashland and Bayfield counties for animal control.

In 1994 CHA received a generous bequeath, which allowed the organization to implement a minimum standard of care so that only spayed and neutered animals up-to-date on vaccinations were released for adoption. This was the first step toward changing the continuous flow of unwanted cats and dogs in our area.

Since then CHA has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for homeless pets by providing medical care and socialization to every cat and dog that comes through our doors. We have also reached out to the community with low-cost spay/neuter options for low-income households. The staff and board of directors sincerely hope you will join us in continuously making our community a better place for all pets and their people. If you have some time, why not take the volunteer training session (first Sunday of each month at noon) so you can spend some quality time with the cats or take a dog for a walk on the newly improved shelter property trails.
