My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello World,
We are Lucy and Desi, 1 and 2 year old pups who are a bonded pair of fluffy puppies. Our foster parents said to tell you that I, Desi, am the younger one but because I’m the boy I think I am a ‘bit’ more in charge (of Lucy, that is) and that I’m a attentive, gentle and adorable little brother, while Lucyi is a sweet, little ‘wee bit of a girl.’ We weigh about 13 and 12 pounds now-- and have big hearts with lots of love to give.

Lucy’s happy sitting (actually it’s more like lying) around with my Mom or one of my doggy foster sisters. Dad says sometimes it looks like a giant sleepover at our house. He says that he and Mom call her the ‘cute little couch potato’ ‘cause she tries to cuddle in their laps whenever she has the chance! Mom says that you will want to snuggle with her any chance you get as she’s just that cute.

As for me, Desi, Mom says I am a sweet, happy, playful little doll with the biggest brown eyes who loves to snuggle in your arms and also ‘explore the grounds.’ While I like to know where Lucy is I’m also a curious little guy with a sense of adventure! I like to engage with my doggy foster sisters and I like to play, too!

Lucy and I also like to lie next to one another, wherever we are. I must admit that she is pretty smart and really good at figuring out how to get more attention -- but Mom says I am an adoring and gentle little brother with soft brown eyes who watches over her and makes her world a safe place.

Now back to the snuggling part, we love to be cuddled separately of course, but we really love to be held together so we can snuggle with each other and our foster Mom or Dad. (Oh and don't tell Mom this, but we just love to be held and snuggled by any human.) We personally don't understand, other than feeding or walking us, why Mom or Dad would want to do anything other than snuggle with us all day long.

We are both potty trained and crate trained. (Dad calls it my ‘man cave’) and I certainly enjoy spending time with those little people called ‘children’. I’m much better with them than Lucy. She prefers being with the ones called ‘adults’. We are also very curious about the world-- and how things work. Every day is another opportunity to learn more ways to make the humans around us smile.

Our foster parents have worked very hard to make us feel safe and build our confidence. We are definitely two loving little FurKids who are looking for an amazing home where we can be together.

Our Ideal Home:
*Someone home most of the time
*Recent dog or rescue dog experience
*Adults or adults and older children

Experience level:
*Have had dogs as an adult
*Recent/current dog experience a plus

So if you are interested in meeting the two of us, (please know that we will only be adopted together) complete our adoption application -- and we’ll be in touch soon.

Their adoption process

1.

Submit Application

Our Adoption Procedure: We require a written application at www.bichonfurkids.org

2.

Approve Application

All applications are screened and responded to by an Applications Coordinator.

3.

Home Check

We require a home/yard safety check which is done with a checklist and photos due to COVID restrictions.

4.

Approve Application

Once approved, our Placement Volunteers get in touch then forward applications that appear to be a good fit to the foster parents

5.

Meet the Pet

They then contact adopters to schedule a virtual adoption visit prior to an adoption visit held outdoors in keeping with COVID requirements

Additional adoption info

Prospective adopters must complete an online application available on our web site. A volunteer then conducts a telephone interview to review the application, followed by requesting a home and yard safety check. Once that has been completed - and if the prospective adopter is approved -the Placement staff will talk with the approved adopter to provide information regarding pups in our foster program that may represent a fit. That will be followed by the foster Moms and Dads contacting the approved adopter to answer questions and schedule an adoption visit at the foster home.

We require an adoption contract for each furkid plus the adoption donation. The fee for pups over one year of age
is $400.00 and is tax-deductible. The adoption fee for our puppies is $500. Our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated when adopted and come with an 'adoption kit' which includes a bed, blanket, pillow, leash, collar, vitamins, toy and treats.

Donations beyond our adoption fee are also appreciated so that we can rescue and save more lives.

Go meet their pets

Our pets are all cared for in loving foster homes. While in foster care, the foster family ensures that they receive lots of tender loving care, have any medical needs addressed, get lots of exercise and training. This gives the foster family an opportunity to learn about each pup's personality so we can develop a bio that describes the furkid. In turn that knowledge enables us to better assist you in selecting a dog that will be the best fit for you and your family.

More about this rescue

Bichon FurKids Rescue focuses on Bichon Frises and Bichon mixes in need of forever homes. We rescue from local shelters, as well as provide services for pets who are surrendered directly to us. Our dogs are cared for in foster homes where they learn to be socialized, housebroken and to become part of a family. Our services are highly personalized - and we work directly with our volunteers to help rescued dogs successfully transition to new homes and lives.
