Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
** I am currently being housed at our Oglethorpe St location. Come meet me at 71 Oglethorpe St NW, every day between 12pm-7pm. Or visit humanerescuealliance.org/how-to-adopt to learn more.
No time to come to the shelter? Meet me virtually during our open hours, note that wait time may vary for virtual meet and greets and we require same day pick up if you decide to adopt: https://waitwhile.com/locations/humanerescuealliance/r/welcome
Who's the clever boy? That's Smarty. A 2-year-old brindle colored beauty, Smarty is a stray, so we don't know his background. He's on the shy side initially but warms up especially when there's hot dogs, cheese, and gentle pets. More please! Smarty recently went on a field trip with a volunteer, and they shared, "He is an easy walker, and he likes meeting people and other dogs. Smarty needs some reassurance, but he is so very sweet. He was afraid of the car at first but was a confident car rider on the way back. He was so excited to go to the park!!" Meet this charmer who is going to be the star in household.

More about this shelter
At the Humane Rescue Alliance, we honor more than 150 years of commitment to protecting animals, supporting families, and advocating for positive change to create a world where all animals can thrive. HRA serves as a national leader and local champion for all animals.
LOCAL FOCUS
With a people-focused, community-based approach, we treat every animal as an individual and emphasize specialized care for both animals and their families. Through our five campuses in the District of Columbia and New Jersey, we are the largest animal services provider in our region – touching the lives of tens of thousands of animals annually through direct rescue, care, and community-based services. Our teams find solutions to both small and big problems, from providing direct care to an animal in crisis to tackling systemic barriers to affordable, pet-friendly housing.
