My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Your day will brighten when you meet this little guy! Bowser's big smile is just a glimpse into his silly demeanor and he's waiting to experience new adventures with you!

Life for Bowser has been tough but he's ready to show you how much he has blossomed as he learns what love feels like. He can be a bit shy meeting new faces, and will certainly bark at you to let you know he sees you, but don't let that fool you - once he warms up to you, he's a bundle of wiggles! At just 4 years old (40 lbs.), he's the perfect package of playfulness, affection and curiosity. Bowser loves squeaky toys and a good game of tug! He's also an outdoor enthusiast who relishes every moment in the fresh air and loves to sunbathe along the way! Indoors, he transforms into the perfect snuggler who wants to cozy up with his humans.

"I love people, but I want them to know I see them, and when they just ignore and don't introduce themselves to me, well then they're gonna hear it" he said. "But give me a few minutes, a treat, and a squeaky toy, and I'll be a great companion" he continued. Bowser doesn't love barriers, but does love to run around and is great on a leash.

Bowser will need to meet any potential canine companions to ensure compatibility with his new playmate! His history with cats is unknown.

Additional adoption info

1. Visit our shelter and choose the animal that you would like to adopt.

Please be aware that the adoption process can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours depending on the information we need to cover with you and the number of pets going home at the same time. We know this is a time commitment, but your new pet will appreciate it!

2. Fill out an adoption profile. At PMHS, we use a profile and interview process to ensure that each animal adopted will be matched with the most compatible new owner(s). Once your profile has been reviewed, our adoption counselors will discuss with you any medical or behavioral information relevant to the animal you chose and process your adoption application. Every dog or cat that is adopted from PMHS is up to date with required vaccinations and microchipped.

3. Pay fee.

3. Congratulations! You are now ready to go home with your new pet!

More about this shelter

After 35 years, our organization is now officially known as Pope Memorial Humane Society. Though we have a new name, logo, and facility, it is important to keep in mind that we are the same organization at our core. Our staff, volunteers, and operations remain the same, as does our unfailing commitment to saving the lives of animals in need. We will continue to serve Strafford County and the surrounding areas of New Hampshire and southern Maine with the same dedication. Though we are proud of the growth and impact we have made in the last 35 years as Cocheco Valley Humane Society, we look forward to this new chapter in our organization’s story.
