My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

10/30/24.   5-year-old CALI was such a good sport, letting me put different costumes on him. He is such a sweet boy who has been through so much and really deserves a loving, kind foster/adopter. He is good with older children and calm, non-threatening dogs. Please, let's help CALI find his home.

9/24/24  Hi everybody, my name is CALI and I really NEED your help finding my forever family or a foster until I can find my family.  I love everyone I meet, am good with children and like most other dogs.

A bit about my backstory - I was owned by a terrible man who gave me an awful derogatory name and would just open a 40lb bag of food and throw it on the ground for me to eat. I lived outside and was never given bowls for food or water. Neighbors complained that they saw my owner hit me. One day he threw me over the electric fence (said I was too much of a wussy) and told the neighbor he would make sure I couldn't re-enter. Luckily a kindly neighbor who heard what happened came looking for me and I jumped right in her car. She tried to find me a home for a few years but unfortunately had no luck and as she was in financial duress herself finally called Doberman rescue where I am now. As I have lived most of my life outside, I will need some training but I am smart and really want to please so will learn quickly if given the chance. I like most other dogs but with my previous owner there were sometimes roaming packs of wild dogs that scared me. That's why I am very stressed at the kennel and need a sheet on my run and it's hard for me to gain weight despite upping my food intake. On my way down here I stayed overnight with a previous DRL adopter and her family. She said I was a very good boy with her 4 other dogs (even the little one) and all her children.

Not every dog is available for adoption or need a foster - some are wards of the rescue (usually due to medical reasons, but sometimes behavioral). These dogs will always be supported by DRL. We welcome financial support for these dogs. Here are links to foster and adoption applications for those dogs who need a foster home or adoptive home.
