Summit is looking for a barn home! Summit is a 4 year old male who has been assessed as social. Social Barn Cats are more likely to interact with their adopters, but would not succeed in a traditional home setting. Summit tends to overstimulate easily when being handled for too long, meaning he would do best in a home with no kids, or with kids who have cat experience. Summit would benefit from having the freedom to go outside as he pleases!
Summit must go to a home with an existing barn cat colony. Barn cats tend to be more successful hunters, more likely to stick around the property, and better able to deter predators when there are multiple cats.
If you are interested in adopting Summit to be a working cat on your property, stop by the shelter any day during adoption hours to join the queue. If you have not submitted a barn cat application previously, you will need to fill one out when you arrive. All adoptions are first come, first serve.
*Barn cats require a secure indoor enclosure where they can be kept confined. After they are able to have outdoor access, they should continue to have access to this safe indoor space for protection from weather and predators. The indoor space could be a shed, garage, workshop, barn, etc. but should have four walls and a roof and be able to be entered by the caretakers in order to feed the cat and clean the litter box. Barn cat caretakers should expect to provide access to a litter box even after the cat is able to go outdoors, will need to feed the cat and provide fresh water daily, and will need to provide routine vaccines and medical care if the cat becomes sick or injured.*

Kitsap Humane Society is a private, nonprofit animal shelter. We rescue and rehome over 6000 pets each year. Every dog or cat leaves our shelter spayed or neutered and with complete vaccines and a microchip. We have been caring for animals in need since 1908 and envision a time when all adoptable pets have loving homes.
We are extremely proud of our exceptionally high “lives saved” rate of over 96%. Through our active adoption, behavior, foster, transfer, and veterinary programs, we are able to rehome every adoptable animal that enters our facility. No animal is ever euthanized for lack of space.
In addition to caring for and adopting animals, we also provide spay/neuter services to low income residents of Kitsap County, and provide Animal Rescue and Enforcement services to our surrounding municipalities.
