My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I'm an independent and shy little lady! But also kind of a diva! I will need help with grooming i.e. brushing once or twice a week for the rest of my life! That being said, I'm learning that people are okay and will provide me safety and food! I'm learning that brushing and petting is okay and also how to cuddle. I'm a wiggle worm when picked up because I have lots of energy and I'm still scared! I will need time to adjust and earn your trust but please don't give up on me!! My motor (purrr) sounds like an oldsmobile and has a rumble to it but that doesn't mean I don't know how to purr I just sound different because I am! I love toys, wet food and climbing! I would love a cat tower in my furrrever home! I don't mind friendly older cats and with time could get used to dogs.

Adopt-A-Pet Events in the Kansas City Area

Cat adoptions are held at the PetSmart at 115th and Metcalf in Overland Park KS every Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00. Cats available for adoption every day at PetSmart in-store cage area.

Dog adoptions are held at the PetSmart in Olathe KS at 119th and Strang Line, every Saturday from 12:00 to 3:00.

Dog adoptions are held at the PetSmart in Lee's Summit MO at 920 NE Sam Walton Lane, also every Saturday from 12:00 and 3:00.

The Heart of America Humane Society is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit organization helping to place shelter and foster animals into permanent homes in and around the greater Kansas City metro area.

Our goal is to save and improve the lives of Kansas City's homeless companion animals by promoting responsible pet ownership. The Heart of America Humane Society (HAHS) partners with the Lee's Summit Animal Shelter (Lee's Summit MO) and KCK Animal Services (Kansas City KS) to increase pet adoptions into responsible, permanent homes.

Background
Our organization does not have a permanent facility or paid staff, so many of our adoptions take place at PetSmart stores and occasionally through other event venues. Some events raise awareness and bring in donations for our animal support efforts, while others help acknowledge and show appreciation for our own volunteers (who perform all duties outside of their regular jobs).
