My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

When you think of butter, typically the first thing that comes to mind is food. Well, hopefully after reading this bio, you will start to think of our very own Butter. The flavor of butter is usually salty, but that's one of the defining differences between the condiment and our girl. She is so incredibly sweet and affectionate, nuzzling you for more and more. Resilience is also a defining difference between the two; the condiment is known to withstand in certain conditions, but Butter adapts and adjusts herself no matter the weather. Butter is definitely a go with the flow kind of gal, but she especially enjoys cuddling up next to whoever she is with. She may seem timid at first glance, but true to her name, she warms up quickly and melts right into you even faster. Butter is looking for a safe haven where she can relax and fully live up to her potential, but she is looking for her person even more. With Butter, you will find an unconditional love, who will do just about anything to make you happy. She loves squeaky toys, and is very gentle when she is offered a treat. So what do you say, are you ready for some Butter-lovin?

More about this shelter

The South Suburban Humane Society is a 501(c )(3) organization that was started in 1970, serving the animal welfare needs of the entire south suburbs of Chicago. In the beginning, we handled all rescues, adoptions and provided foster care out of private homes. Since November 1973, our organization has been operating a 10,000 square foot open-door animal shelter in Chicago Heights, Illinois.

For over fifty years, our organization has helped tens of thousands of animals. We offer extensive outreach programs including humane education, and community outreach events. We also operate a resale shop located in Steger, Illinois that promotes our organization, our animals and provide much needed income to support our humane work.

The Mission of the South Suburban Humane Society is to protect and promote the well being of pets and their people in our community and beyond.
