My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

NOTE: Boru is currently in Korea. Once adopted, she will travel to her new home in Toronto
-----------------------------------------------------------------

Background: Last winter, she faced a dire situation when her owner fell ill and could no longer care for her, leading to her being sent to a city pound with euthanasia looming. Thankfully, she was rescued just in time, sparing her from an unfortunate fate. Boru is now looking for a loving forever home where she can thrive and bring joy to her new family. Currently, Boru lives with other dogs at our partner boarding house, where she has been thriving and showing her sweet nature. Now, she is looking for a loving forever home where she can bring joy and companionship to her new family.

Personality and Socialization: Boru is a very gentle, chill, and friendly girl with medium energy. She gets along well with other dogs, whether they are small or large, submissive or gentle. Boru loves to be around people and enjoys staying close, often shadowing and monitoring her humans. She is well-behaved and never causes trouble.

Behaviors: Boru loves going for walks and has a great leash-walking manner. She enjoys outdoor time, whether lying down on the grass enjoying a sunbath or just looking around. She is good in the car, comfortable with baths, and mostly obedient, following commands and guidance from her humans. Boru is not destructive and is very quiet. However, her family needs to be careful, as she has a tendency to bolt out when a door is open. Ensuring her safety is crucial.

Health: Blessed with good health and no known food allergies, Boru is spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Monthly preventative measures safeguard her against internal and external parasites.

Ideal Home: Boru's calm and gentle nature makes her a perfect fit for almost any home. She would be especially great with seniors who have the time and desire for a relaxing lifestyle. Boru will become a very loyal and sweet loving companion, bringing joy and comfort to her forever family.

More about this rescue

Free Korean Dogs (FKD) is a registered charity in Canada (BN:80580 0166RR0001).

Founded in Toronto, Canada on July 1st, 2015, our organizations rescue dogs from Korea’s dog meat trade and other at-risk circumstances and find their forever loving homes in Canada and the US.

Millions of dogs are slaughtered for meat consumption in Korea every year. Most of them are kept in tiny, overcrowded cages in dog meat farms and provided no water or shelter from the elements, and given only scraps of waste to eat. It is also common practice for dogs to be brutally tortured prior to slaughter as it is believed to enhance flavor and nutritional healing properties, despite an overwhelming lack evidence to support these claims.

Korea is the only country in the world that commercially farms dogs for food. Lack of legislation regulating the Korean dog meat trade result in the lack of standards for safety or humane treatment. Simply speaking, dogs can be obtained by any means, whether stray or farmed, and treated in unfathomable inhumane manners without consequence. The dog meat trade in Korea is a legislative gray area and political landmine that nobody in power wants to address.

Our international rescue and adoption program saves over hundreds of dogs each year from the Korean dog meat trade and finds their homes in Canada. Since 2015, we have shut down two dog meat farm operations, rescued over two hundreds dogs from the dog meat trade, and found forever homes for over seven hundreds dogs rescued from euthanasia or the risk of being forced into the meat trade.

We also promote public awareness to create a cultural shift from cruelty to compassion for dogs in Korea through campaigns, protests, and events. Through rescue, rehabilitation, and education, we hope one day all dogs and animals can lead peaceful and happy lives.
