My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Beautiful Olive was much loved in her previous home, but is looking for a forever home, through no fault of her own. Recently, the health of her current owner has caused Olive to return to GGBR.

At only 7 years old, poor Olive has already outlived two owners and one doggie companion! No one can blame her for being insecure!

Olive readily uses a doggie door. She is a playful, active little gal who gets along with other dogs and enjoys her walks. Olive does not take well to being left alone and will cry and howl. Her anxiety also sometimes causes her to have accidents in the house. It is unknown whether having a doggie companion in her next home might help with Olive's separation anxiety. Her foster home has several dogs, and Olive does well with them.

Olive is a timid and nervous dog, who is particularly fearful of men. She is good with women, kids and dog-savvy cats. She has chronic allergies for which she has seen a dermatologist and she takes medication and eats a special diet. Olive has recently been diagnosed with a heart murmur, which requires no medication or special treatment at this time, but which should be checked periodically and should be mentioned to her veterinarian, if she ever needs to be anesthetized.

If you have an all female home with the patience to help Olive with her anxiety, are home a lot, can keep up with Olive's allergies and medications, and have a doggie door, you might have the perfect home for this lovely sweet dog. A doggie companion for Olive is not required, but it could be a plus!

Additional adoption info

All of our paperwork is on our website. (http://www.ggbassetrescue.org/info/adoption) but we expect an application form, a home check visit, possible reference check and an adoption donation. All this helps to ensure that the right basset hound is chosen for you, to match your lifestyle and circumstances, as you will become a "forever" home!

Go meet their pets

We do not have a specific kennel or shelter location to take our dogs to. We are so widespread that we just go from foster home to forever home.

More about this rescue

Golden Gate Basset Rescue rescues Basset Hounds from abusive, abandoned and unwanted situations across the whole of Northern California. We were formed in 2005 after operating for nearly ten years under the Northern California Basset Hound Club.

Today, Golden Gate Basset Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)(3), not-for-profit organization. We exist solely on donations.

Golden Gate Basset Rescue takes orphaned bassets into foster care, usually in volunteer homes, where they are loved and cared for until permanent, forever homes are found. We provide veterinary care, which includes > necessary vaccinations, spaying and neutering, heartworm, flea and tick prevention.

Our wonderful volunteers spend time with the dogs to evaluate them, deal with any behavioral issues, and restore them to full health with good food and love.
