________________________________________________________________________________

Estimated birth date: 1/1/23

Personality: Curious, Funny, Nervous

Favorite treats: Loves Cheerios, and seeds.

Current Diet: Oxbow Adult Rat Food

Favorite toys and activities: He likes to bury his food bowl in enrichment items and toys.

Potty trained: No

This animal’s daily routine: Atlas is super flexible with his routine. His foster visits him through out the day to work on trust training.

BFF (Does this animal have or need a friend of the same species in their home?): Atlas is currently housed alone but would benefit from having a friend in his forever home.

Other species this pet has been exposed to and reaction: Atlas is housed near several species of animals. He seems aware but not worried about them..

Has this animal been exposed to children? What was their reaction? None

Health concerns: Atlas does have red eyes which limits his vision.

Behavioral concerns: Atlas is in our trust training program for shyness and investigating humans with his mouth. Learn more about our trust training methods at https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/trust-training

Update 8/23: His foster talks sweetly and calmly to him several times throughout the day while offering him treats and touching him gently on his back and tail. He has recently started allowing his foster to pet him for upwards of 30 seconds at a time with no signs of fear or hesitation while outside of the cage. Although Atlas can be nervous due to his low vision and low socialization in previous homes, he has shown that when approached slowly and with patience he can be very sweet and loving.

Atlas made his way to MNPPR after he didnt get along with his previous owners other rats.

Due to our rescue being foster-based, not all foster homes are located in Saint Paul, MN. This animal's foster parent prefers to meet at the Either PetSmart location in Rochester, MN - 3845 Marketplace Dr NW, Rochester, MN 55901 & 4603 Maine Ave SE #109, Rochester, MN 55904 for meet & greets, & adoptions.

Fee: Atlas has an adoption fee of $20

We absolutely DO NOT SHIP ANIMALS! Please do not ask.

Atlas' care while in rescue has not yet been sponsored. If you would like to donate to provide veterinary care, food, bedding, and enrichment for Atlas or other pocket pets in the care of MNPPR, please visit https://www.mnpocketpetrescue.org/sponsor-a-pocket-pet for more information.

More about this rescue

MN Pocket Pet Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization primarily serving the Twin Cities Metro Area, focusing on education and public outreach. Our intent is to keep all animals in their homes, with their families, whenever possible. We are committed to rescuing those pocket pets that are in jeopardy of being euthanized or are in danger of being abused, left unattended or in other types of vulnerable situations. We ensure all animals receive proper veterinary care, medication and special training for any behavioral issues, as well as to arrange safe, temporary homes for these animals until stable forever homes can be found. Our team is made up of enthusiastic volunteers who work passionately to serve the underrepresented and often misunderstood niche of pocket pets in the overall rescue community and general public.
