Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Ashley - this adorable long hair chi-mix was surrendered with her sister, Dory to our partner rescue in Puerto RIco when her owner could no longer provide a safe place for them, and of course they welcomed this adorable pair into the rescue. This is what her foster mom has to share about her:
Hi there, friend! My name is Ashley, although I don’t really respond to it, or any name really 😊 my foster mom refers to me as puppy or girly for now. I DO respond to commands and am eager to please and seem to be very trainable. My foster mom is working on basic commands with me, and I love our training sessions.
I am a very sweet and cuddly girl – I love nothing more than the attention of my humans and sitting on their lap or next to them on the couch. I am a 9-month old puppy and can be pretty barky: usually it’s in reaction to outside noises or me having energy I need to get out through play or walks! My foster mom would describe me as sweet, loving, goofy, and very smart. I love my kennel and it’s my safe space, so I like to take my time to wake up and stretch in there before going out and going potty. As soon as I do my morning potty, I am full of energy and need attention. During the day, I sleep in my dog bed next to my foster mom while she works and am fairly quiet all day. Once dinner time comes around, the energy spikes again and I love to go on sniff walks to work it out.
I love my humans so much, that I tend to resource guard them from other animals. I don’t like sharing my humans with the resident dog and cat. I’m not physically aggressive with them, but I do show them through body language and growls that the human’s attention is for me! Because of this, I think I would thrive as an only pet with a family or person. I do get along with dogs and cats very well, I just get kind of weird when you add the human component. So, if I do go to a home with other animals, I’ll need my humans to help train me in seeing that there is enough love and attention to go around.
I am trained to use potty pads, but am using them less and less as time goes on and prefer to go outside in the backyard. I’m good at going potty on command. I haven’t had an accident inside in almost two weeks! I am also working on my leash walking and really love strolling through the neighborhood to smell all the smells! I’m not super food motivated and like to graze on my kibble throughout the day. High value treats are important to me for training, though. I am so excited to be the best love bug for my future family – is that you?!
