My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rowan came to us from another shelter after being found as a stray. His beautiful brindle coat makes him stand out in a crowd, so prepare to get noticed when you walk this big handsome boy through the neighborhood. Read on to discover some of the things we've learned about him since he arrived.

Rowan is a high-energy kind of guy - which makes sense, since he's only three years old. Somewhere along the way he learned to walk nicely on a leash, though, which means you can enjoy helping him work off some of that energy by taking long walks together. If you're a hiker or a jogger, even better. He'd love to keep you company on your travels.

No worries when the weather's uncooperative and the outdoors seems less than inviting. Puzzle toys, slow feeders and training are great ways to work his brain, and that will burn off energy, too. In fact, positive reinforcement training, using treats and praise, is a great way to bond with a new dog. Rowan is still learning his commands, so you can enjoy teaching him the ins and outs of good-boy behavior while you become buddies for life.

We'd like to introduce Rowan to the whole family here at the shelter before he goes home. It might take him a few minutes to realize you're ready to be friends, but keep tasty treats on offer and you'll soon have him literally eating out of your hand. Based on what we've seen at the shelter, we are recommending that Rowan doesn't go home with any other pets - he wants you all to himself!

Could Rowan be the dog you've been hoping to meet? Why not hop in the car and take a ride out here to Lollypop Farm to meet him and our other available dogs? You could find yourself heading home with love on the end of a leash.

More about this shelter

Mission:
Lollypop Farm, the Humane Society of Greater Rochester, works together with our community better the lives of animals through justice, prevention, and life-saving care.

Vision: A just and compassionate world for all animals.

Lollypop Farm is not your typical animal welfare organization. We don’t classify ourselves as merely a shelter, simply taking in and rehoming pets. Rather, we are your partner. We’ll work with you to build a just and compassionate world for all animals–to save animals from abuse and suffering, to find a resource to keep your pet, to guide you in adopting a new pet, to make the tough decision to say goodbye to your family friend or to share information on how to help animals in your daily life.
