Cheyenne was released to rescue because the breeder wanted to retire her before she became too old to enjoy the rest of her life in a loving home. When she came to her foster home, she was very timid and scared. She is still adjusting to accepting love from her foster family, it will take quite a while for her to feel safe.
Cheyenne is wary of hands & humans. You will not be able to just pick her up. Her family will have to earn her trust on her terms. Lots of time & patience will be required. She is still working on feeling safe coming through doorways. This is quite common for dogs that have had little socialization, passing through a threshold or doorway is intimidating for them.
She will need a calm, low activity home with patience. Going into a new home will be a change for Cheyenne but with the right home, she will do well. Another dog of similar size would be perfect for her. She doesn't play with her foster siblings, but they help to keep her company and they taught her how to be loved by a human.
Cheyenne has not had any accidents in her foster home for some time, but a new home needs to understand she could have accidents until she gets her routine down. She is still not accepting of the harness and leash yet. We know she will get there but it is just not in the cards for her yet. Therefore, for her safety, a secure physical fenced yard is a must.
Cheyenne is an absolute doll, and she will make a fabulous roommate. We hope to find her a human friend that is interested in spending the day with Cheyenne watching & observing the world. Cheyenne isn’t a snuggling dog (yet) or an ‘adventure’ dog. She is a dog that is finally getting her chance to lounge around & be a dog!
