Charley was entrusted to our care through the Final Wish Program after his mom suffered a serious injury that left her unable to care for him. His former family describes him as well-socialized, enjoys walks, and in good health. We have found Charley to be a sweet and friendly boy who does great in a big play group with other dogs! He is 11 years old and weighs 51 lbs.
Charley went on a very special outing with a group of volunteers and other Frosted Faces: paddle boarding! His "date" for the day shared afterwards:
"Charley is such a sweet dog. He doesn't demand attention but is happy for pets and scratches. He was also very good with the other dogs. He was so good in the car that I kept forgetting he was back there.
It was my first time doing stand-up paddle boarding, and I'm pretty sure it was Charley's as well. He wasn't afraid of the water at all (he is a Lab mix), but he also didn't jump off the board and into the water, which I VERY much appreciated. At first, Charley wasn't sure what to make of the whole situation, but by the end, he laid down on the board. He stayed very close to me the whole time."
Charley went on a two-week Frosted Fling to enjoy time in a home while he waits for his forever family. He earned rave reviews! His Fling Mom shares:
"Charley is almost out of place in a senior dog rescue! He's 11 going on 5 years old in my opinion. He is perfect for someone who wants a canine soul mate who understands what he's been through and who will work every day to heal his hurt, and help him live a safe, secure life with a person he can follow everywhere as much as possible.
Charley has had major trauma following the loss of his mom. He attached very quickly to us, and displayed some jealousy and guarding when we gave attention to our other six dogs. FFF kennel staff are aware of this, and they can guide you on managing it. I think he's used to a life where he was his mom's "one and only. He really needs to know he's safe and loved. And this might be easier if he didn't have to share his person, or bed, or comfy space with anyone else.
Charley is perfect on walks and encountering other dogs in social situations. We aren't hikers, but it is clear that Charley would enjoy and benefit from an active companion. He is youthful, curious and likes to be included in your activities.
Charley howls loudly if you leave and close a door in front of him. Sounds a bit like a cross between a hound dog, as a Siberian husky, and a rooster. But he stops within a few minutes and lays by the door and waits for you to come back. It's endearing, and pretty normal for a loving, devoted Lab.
Charley is 100% house-trained, and since we have a dog door he used it right away. Not sure what his signal would be if he didn't have a dog door. But I'll be anything he knows to go to door and ask to be let out.
Charley is one of the most soulful dogs we have ever known. You will want to spend your life helping to overcome his feelings of pain and loss."
Charley just left on another Fling to enjoy time in a home while he waits to meet his forever family. Might that be you?
