My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Randy: Your Future Adventure Buddy!

Randy is a lovable 5-year-old lab hound mix who has overcome the odds to find his forever home. Rescued as a stray, this gentle soul spent 17 weeks in the shelter, where he has blossomed from a scared, shy pup into a vibrant and affectionate companion.

After successfully completing his heartworm treatment, Randy is ready to embark on a new journey with a caring family. He adores going for long walks and runs, and nothing makes him happier than feeling the wind in his fur during car rides. His playful spirit is matched only by his sweet nature, making him the perfect addition to an active household.

Randy does have a strong prey drive, so he’s best suited for a home without cats. However, his loyalty and love will shine brightly in the right environment. With an adoption fee of $185, you can bring home this amazing boy who is eager to share his adventures and love with you.

Come meet Randy and discover the joy he can bring to your life! All cats and dogs adopted from the Chequamegon Humane Association are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on age appropriate vaccinations, dewormed, and microchipped. Dogs are tested for heartworm. A minimum adoption fee of $175 is required for adult dogs, puppy adoption fees start $250, and dogs over the age of 10 are $85. Adult cat adoption fees are $50, kittens under one year are $120, and cats over the age of 10 are $35.

ABOUT US
CHA serves as a temporary safe haven for homeless animals from Ashland and Bayfield Counties.
OUR MISSION
To promote and support the humane treatment of animals in the Chequamegon Bay area.
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
Picture
Initially volunteers ran CHA (or CAL - Chequamegon Animal League- as it was then known) out of their homes until a parcel of land was obtained from the City of Ashland on Old Airport Road. The current building was constructed in two phases: The indoor/outdoor dog runs came first and the cat room and office were added at a later date. Up until the mid-1990’s, there was no preventative care given to the cats and dogs adopted out; no vaccines were given and the animals were not spayed or neutered. The average annual budget was around $10,000/year, most of which came from Ashland and Bayfield counties for animal control.

In 1994 CHA received a generous bequeath, which allowed the organization to implement a minimum standard of care so that only spayed and neutered animals up-to-date on vaccinations were released for adoption. This was the first step toward changing the continuous flow of unwanted cats and dogs in our area.

Since then CHA has been dedicated to improving the quality of life for homeless pets by providing medical care and socialization to every cat and dog that comes through our doors. We have also reached out to the community with low-cost spay/neuter options for low-income households. The staff and board of directors sincerely hope you will join us in continuously making our community a better place for all pets and their people. If you have some time, why not take the volunteer training session (first Sunday of each month at noon) so you can spend some quality time with the cats or take a dog for a walk on the newly improved shelter property trails.
