My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

`Dale is a super affectionate, elegant big cat with a big purr. He is companionable and friendly and loves to snuggle, sit on laps and be held. He also likes to bird-watch from window-sills and hang out in sunny spots -- he isn`t overly needy. He does get nervous and/or over-excited around other cats so might be best in a home where he is the only cat or where the other cat is very mellow. He loves hanging out with human friends and would love to share life with a companion who is retired or works from home. He is enthusiastic about meal time and has plenty of youthful enthusiasm left -- he likes to chase balls and play soccer with toys. He is curious about our cat friendly dogs, but also nervous and unsure around them -- I would only recommend him going to a home with a very laid-back dog who basically ignores cats. He uses his litter boxes frequently and likes them to be clean.` - Foster

`Dale is a male cat. He is 8 years old. If you like snuggling with cats he likes it too! Dale loves his playtime so maybe buy some toys beforehand! Dale gets nervous in new situations. Dale is looking for a home without young kids so if you have little kids but you have a friend that doesn`t, tell them about him and maybe they will like him!` - 4th grader at Eberwhite Elementary

Dale is currently living in one of our wonderful foster homes. Adopting from foster is easy! Please email adoptions@hshv.org or call (734)662-5585 to arrange a meeting today!

Additional adoption info

Thank you for considering adopting and saving a life! Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge you need to adopt while making the process a positive experience, so here are some things to know:

+ You must be 18 years of age or older to adopt at HSHV. We welcome all--from any county or state!

+ Prior to visiting an animal, you must complete an application. You can do this at the shelter, or save time by bringing a completed one with you by downloading it from our website at www.hshv.org/howtoadopt.

+ Some animals have special adoption requirements.

+ Adoptions are first-come, first served and holds are limited to one 24-hour hold per family.

+ Please allow at least an hour if you plan on adopting. Bring your driver's license or other government-issued ID with proof of address, a copy of your lease (if it applies) and vaccination records for current pets.

+ Applications are accepted up until 15 minutes prior to closing.

+ Most adoptions are same-day, you'll take home your new friend!

When our animals go home, they've received an initial health check and have been:
+ Spayed/Neutered
+ Microchipped
+ Current on vaccinations (as appropriate to their age)
+ Dewormed
+ Feline Leukemia tested (kittens and cats)
+ Heartworm tested (adult dogs)
