When Alaster arrived at his foster home, he immediately found comfort in the company of other dogs. Oakley, the family's gentle giant, became his guide, and Alaster faithfully follows her everywhere. He quickly mastered the doggy door and potty training by watching his new canine friends. Surprisingly, he's a natural in the car-calm and quiet during every ride.
But when it comes to humans, Alaster is still hesitant. Though he approaches for treats, any attempt to pet him sends him fleeing. It's clear he has experienced something painful in his past, and the fear still lingers. Despite this, he shows no aggression-only deep-rooted wariness.
At night, Alaster makes it clear that crates aren't for him. Once allowed to roam with the other dogs, he behaves perfectly, proving he can be trusted. He enjoys treats like string cheese and BusyBones, and loves playing with toys, sharing them happily with the other dogs.
Though Alaster longs for companionship, human touch remains his biggest challenge. He watches his foster siblings receiving affection but can't bring himself to join in. With patience, love, and perhaps the help of a professional trainer, his foster believes Alaster will one day learn to trust again.
For now, Alaster's journey continues-one paw at a time. If you think you could be the loving forever home that he needs, reach out today!

More about this rescue
Founded in 1990, Nuzzles and Co (formerly Friends of Animals Utah) was just a small group of animal lovers lobbying for a new shelter facility. Today, we are a full-fledged animal rescue and rehabilitation organization with an adoption center, dedicated staff and board of trustees, and a 15,000 sq. ft. facility that includes a full veterinary suite, indoor and outdoor training spaces, miles of hiking trails, and a community cat room with an attached "catio."
