Laszlo was surrendered to a local shelter when he was only six weeks old, along with his siblings and his mom. Everyone was extremely malnourished, suffering from skin infections, dehydrated, and lethargic. We were able to get everyone into foster care, and each dog thrived and found forever families of their own!
Now, one month shy of his 1st birthday, Laszlo finds himself being returned to the rescue by the only family he's ever known, and our hearts are absolutely broken for him. Laszlo grew up with two little girls who he loved dearly, and reportedly looked for them whenever they left the house. He grew up with another large male dog, who he played well with, but also got into quite a few scuffles with. From what we can gather, their play would become too intense, causing the dogs to fight. This is an overstimulation issue and can easily be corrected and managed with training, especially since Laszlo was adopted when he was still a puppy. Unfortunately, his family didn't think training was necessary :( During a scuffle with the other resident dog, one of the children in the home tried to separate the dogs (no adults were present for the fight) and got bit.
Since being back in our care, we have seen not seen dog aggression from Laszlo. We see a dog who doesn’t know how to dog, and who does fine with low-key, submissive dogs. He does get overstimulated during play with alpha/more confident dogs. We are taking it slowly with him in order to set him up for success, but we feel with proper training and decompression time, he could live with the right match of a dog. He'd also do great as your one and only soaking up all the love and attention! Due to food scarcity issues while he was still a baby, Laszlo needs to be fed separate from other dogs. Fortunately he's great in his crate and has no problem eating his meals there!
We are committed to finding Laszlo a forever home who is as invested in his well-being as we are. After losing the only family he's known, he deserves the absolute best FOREVER home, one who will commit to training, daily exercise and mental stimulation, and plenty of love.
Laszlo will complete a professional board and train program in July to give him the training he never received in his first home. We’d love to line up a home for him directly after training! As an added bonus, his adopters will receive all three of his follow-up lessons with our professional trainer for free.
