My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

The first 6 months of Autumn's life were horrible. She was owned by someone that deprived her of food and water. She was confined to a crate for long periods of left tied outside in all kinds of weather. When AC finally removed her from the home, she had a large open gash on her side. Despite that, she came to us as a very affectionate pup. She had pneumonia in Dec. 2023 and she had also been battling digestive issues since then as well. Lacking nutrition during her most developmental stage had caused her some stomach problems that took us about 5 months to sort out. Now that we have found the dog food that works best for her, she is doing great.

Autumn embraces being alive and loved. She is a happy, affectionate, playful, and friendly dog that loves people, other dogs, and cats. However, since she missed out on being a puppy, she is still very puppy like now. She has lots of energy and loves to play with toys and other dogs. She would also love to play with a cat if she could find one that was game. She would be a great addition to any family.

Please note Autumn is sensitive to chicken and chicken products. She is on Purina Pro Plan Sensitive Skin and Stomach Salmon and Rice food. Her treats need to be chicken free as well. This is her only special need.

More about this rescue

So MD Animal Rescue is an organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and finds homes for abandoned, injured, sick, abused, and neglected shelter and stray dogs. Once a dog is rescued they are place with us or with a foster family where they receive any medical care and rehabilitation needed to get them ready for adoption. After that, we go to work networking the dogs through various outlets to find them their forever family.

Our organization is based on the premise that all dogs deserve a forever, loving home and that we are here to help them do that.

We also believe that sometimes pet owners fall on hard times and need help temporarily to keep from having to give up their pet. In these cases, we do what we can to help these pet owners keep their pets by providing food and other supplies or financial assistance for needed vet care.

We also strongly advocate for spay/neuter and proper animal care. We provide information to the community about spay/neuter assistance programs, financial aid programs to help with expenses for pets during unexpected illness, information about heartworm prevention and treatment, contact information for local wildlife rescues, and any other information that is needed.

I first started out by volunteering at my local humane society after adopting my first shelter dog in 1990 Through the adoption process I learned how animal shelters work and the struggles they encounter. I have always loved animals, especially dogs, and wanted to help. After many, many years of volunteering and being a pet owner, in 2014, I was finally in a position to start my own rescue.

Our mission is to continue providing all of these services to save the lives of as many dogs as possible until, hopefully, one day, we won't have to.
