My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet HC Lizard TX! He came to NorthStar when his owners found themselves without a home and unable to care for him and their other dogs. Lizard is a Shih Tzu mix, approximately 1 year old, and weighing just 11 pounds.

Lizard's TX foster tells us that he is terrified of cats larger than 10 pounds. He will “scream” when they just look at him, however, he is good with and enjoys the company of smaller cats as you can see in his photos. He will actually groom them and sleeps with them. Lizard made his way to NJ and has settled into his foster home. He resides with another dog who he loves to play with and sleep next to (as seen in the images below) although this did not happen right away!

Lizard is skittish when he meets new humans and other dogs. However, he does enjoy his humans and his fosters friends that come by. He also acclimated to the neighbor's dogs through the fence though he was scared of them at first. So don’t let his initial fear deter you as it’s all a lie!

If you are looking for a Netflix and chill type of dude, Lizard is your man! He loves to be near his humans and especially loves being held! Since he is just one year old he does still get his zoomies 1-2x/day. He does well on a leash but only when not in crowds! Lizard would do best in a home without children as sudden movements set him off. Although he has gotten used to it there are still occasions where he doesn’t like it and will bark or “scream” or even charge.

Lizard will do his business outside but will also utilize wee wee pads. His fosters in NJ are trying to break him of his accidents in the home. He is not crate trained due to his anxiety while in the crate that causes him to relieve himself however, he doesn’t get himself into any trouble when left out when his fosters are out.

Unfortunately, Lizard can get carsick if he is in the back seat of a car so he does best riding "shotgun".

Prior to adoption, Lizard will be neutered, microchipped and brought up to date on vaccines. The adoption fee for this sweet boy is $425.

If you are interested in meeting Lizard please consider submitting an adoption application and be sure to mention his name - HC Lizard TX!!!!

More about this rescue

In many areas of the country, especially in the South, the situation for animals is desperate: Chained outside and starving, homeless and running loose, or just simply no longer wanted and abandoned in an overburdened and underfunded facility that can’t possibly take another. For these animals, there is not much hope…except to look in the night sky for the North Star, their only way out. We are a group of passionate volunteers committed to saving these innocent dogs and finding them a new forever home. NorthStar Pet Rescue was founded in 2017, and although we might be a relatively new name among New Jersey animal rescues, you may recognize some of us from the work we’ve done volunteering with other rescues to help animals over the past decade. We are 100% dedicated to operating in an safe, transparent, and ethical manner and to ensuring the best veterinary practices are followed with regards to the care and transport of our animals. NorthStar Pet Rescue is IRS 501(c)(3) charitable organization (EIN: 81-5348036).
