My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Garnet! This 38-lb Poodle is just one year old. Garnet is a real gem: she a loving, smart, cuddly dog who is looking for a kind, patient person who can show her how wonderful a dog’s life can be.

  • General Behavior:  Garnet is a sweet and sensitive girl who tends to be shy around new people or pets. She just wants to get to know you on her own terms. Once she trusts you, she loves to love and be loved. She loves to get close to her person and to cuddle on the couch. She thinks she is a lap dog and will try to melt into you. She will give you kisses and follow you around the house.

  • Likes & Dislikes:  Garnet likes toys. She hasn’t quite learned fetch, but she will hold onto stuffed animals and take them to her den. As far as food goes, she can be a bit picky with treats: she has a tendency to graze. Her foster mom found that she enjoys small pieces of cheese, though!

  • Training: Garnet is a smart cookie! She is housetrained if let out frequently. She is a very good girl and she walks well on a leash. She is pretty well-mannered, but she could benefit from learning a few commands. Her foster mom is working on “sit.” She sleeps soundly in her bed without a peep the entire night. She seems to enjoy relaxing in her den and seeks it out at times.

  • Medical: Garnet is a healthy girl! She just needs her monthly flea and heartworm preventatives, like any dog.

  • Other Animals:  Garnet is good with other dogs of all sizes, once she gets to know them. She has not been observed around cats, but her foster thinks she would be OK with them.

  • Children: Garnet has a tendency to jump for attention. Given her size and tendency to jump, she’d probably do better in a home without small children (under age 8) or the elderly who could be easily knocked down.

  • Home: Garnet has a loud bark. She hasn’t barked excessively, but will bark when you arrive home out of excitement, or when she is guarding the house. Other than that, she would do well in a condo, apartment, or single-family home, as long as she gets enough exercise.

  • Grooming: As a poodle girl, Garnet will require regular brushing and grooming to avoid matting. Expect to have her groomed at least once a month (estimated cost $50-$100 per groom).

  • Overall: Garnet is a great dog who would make a fantastic companion. I think she will continue to come out of her shell with time.

Could you treasure Garnet forever? Then visit our website www.PoodleandPoochRescue.org where you will find the application to adopt. You’ll be put in contact with her foster family if it’s a match. She is up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, microchipped, and spayed.  Her adoption donation is $550.

We are a foster-based rescue organization and do not have a facility. We have all events posted on our website each month.

More about this rescue

Poodle and Pooch Rescue is a 501(c)3 non profit organization that saves dogs that truly need help. We rescue the "leftovers" from animal control, the dogs nobody wants because they're older or suffer from neglect, abuse or have a medical need. Their "last" day becomes the first day of their new life. We provide the veterinary care they need, a foster family they love and when they're ready, we adopt them to a family who cherishes them. We do not have a physical shelter because every dog lives with one of our foster families. We are all volunteers so your tax-deductible donation goes directly to help the dogs. We have saved over 5,500 dogs since 2008.
