Meet Anu, an adorable 6-year-old female dog with a heart of gold. Despite losing her home in a devastating house fire, Anu has remained happy-go-lucky, friendly, and incredibly sweet. She was transported to our shelter on June 21st, along with another dog who has since found a new home. Anu, however, is still searching for her happily ever after.
Anu has a wonderful personality and is extremely loving, but she has gotten a bit tense during dog meets at the shelter. Because of this, she would do best with very slow introductions to other dogs. Anu would also greatly benefit from lots of decompression time to help her shake off the trauma of her past.
If you are looking for a loving and loyal companion, Anu might just be the perfect fit for your family. Come meet her and see for yourself how special she truly is!
Notes from shelter friends:
Per volunteer on 6/24/24: seems housetrained, peed and pooped outside. Friendly, low key, calm, easy to walk. Likes Tug with plush toys
Notes from staff 6/23:
Anu was lying in her bed when we approached, and came to the front with soft eyes and mid level wags. She was patient for leashing and even helped to get her head in the loop. She is a take charge girl on leash and definitely shows you where she'd like to go! While we walked over to the play yard she did see a small dog and stiffened up and fixated for a few seconds, but then redirected easily. It seems like that might just be how she is with dogs, given her dog meet. On the way back into kennel Anu did not want to go back in and attempted to pancake. I tried treats, and then looped her belly but she was not moving her front legs. I had to loop her chest to get her front legs in, then move back to her belly to get her back legs in. Leveled Anu up to gold.
Notes from staff 6/22:
Anu did well for her dog meet today, but was quite tense and had raised hackles. She sniffed nicely and was unreactive, and did not escalate, but would do best with slow intros to other dogs!
Notes from staff 6/22: Anu is a big sweet girl, she sat on the aca's lap for intake exam. Minimal restraint needed.
Per staff on 6/22/24: As soon as we came into the room Anu was hopping up on me and soliciting attention! She allowed me to switch her leash from another staff member's without any issue right away! She sat there happily, toe tapping and wagging. I offered her some treats and she spit them out before trying them again and deciding she liked them! Anu showed me she knows "sit" and loves to give "paw"! We had a good play session and Anu showed me what a goofy, playful girl she is! Anu allowed all handling with no issues and was just wagging and giving kisses the whole time. Her favorite place to be scratched was her sides, and she'll lean in and kick her leg when you get it just right. Overall, she's a very friendly, playful girl! LOVES all toys and play! So playful and goofy! Trades for a new toy or treats.
