Meet Keno, the stout little pitbull with a heart of gold and a journey toward trust and love. Keno's story is truly touching. Having spent his entire life outside in a dog pen with minimal care or human interaction, Keno now harbors a fear of the unknown. Remarkably, he holds no grudge against humans for his past life.
Keno adores other dogs and many dogs seek solace in his presence. Possessing a gentle nature, Keno's ultimate desire is to be cherished in a loving home. Initially timid, Keno quickly warmed up to the staff, showering them with kisses and choosing to stay close by. He is a pure-hearted soul eager to find a forever home with someone patient enough to earn his trust. Once Keno does trust you, it will feel like hitting the jackpot.
Keno is a unique dog who will be a treasure to whoever adopts him, and we hope that person is you! Though he may start off a bit scared, this brave boy is making great strides with the help of his furry friends in foster.
In foster, Keno is house trained and finds immense comfort in the company of other dogs and his special feline buddy, Yang. Keno adores lounging on the couch, where he loves watching TV and peeking over the top to see what you're up to. His compact frame and soulful eyes make him an irresistible couch companion, always ready for a cozy snuggle.
With patience and understanding, Keno is learning to embrace the safety and love he deserves. Follow his journey and prepare to fall for this gentle, resilient pup who's blossoming into the affectionate companion he's meant to be.
Keno tested positive for heartworms. HSEC gives heartworm positive dogs a course of antibiotics and steroids. They then receive monthly heartworm prevention, as any dog should. We recommend speaking to your veterinarian before adopting a heartworm-positive dog. Interested in adopting Keno? Head over to hsecarolina.org to apply today!

More about this rescue
The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina's mission is to serve as a safe haven for homeless and neglected pets and act as a resource to the community. By educating the public about issues pertaining to animals, we feel that we can work towards the elimination of over breeding of dogs and cats and teach owners to be responsible pet owners. At the same time, we hope to facilitate adoption of pets to good homes so that we can allow more unwanted animals to find a temporary home with us.
