My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

To help us make a great fit for you, and any of our dogs as well, please include information about yourself(Home, family, yard/fence, work hours, other pets...) and/or use our application at sparrowdogs.com. Those emails will get the quickest response, we do the best we can, but if we have to follow up with an email asking you about yourself and waiting for a response, well, we have already moved on to the next email that has provided the details. We are doing the best we can to find the right home for each dog or cat, just need your help too! :

Funny Eloise, she has quite the personality and we have come to appreciate her silliness!! She wasn't quite at the top of her game when we first met her a number of weeks ago. We had gone to a nearby animal control to pick up a couple of other dogs and were encouraged to meet this dog that was NOT doing well at the shelter.

So, off we went into the kennel area. There she was, cowering, hunched and trembling in the back of her space. As kind and patient as the the staff was, the noisy and busy environment was too much for Eloise. She looked incredibly pathetic, so of course we took her home. She sang the song of her people to us very loudly all the way home, lol. I wouldn't say she had a great singing voice, and I am happy to say, that is the last I have heard of it since she has joined us, lol.

Eloise had been picked up as a stray and was not claimed by anyone, sadly. She was in very bad shape. He coat was dirty and overgrown, she had matted/missing patches of her coat, and her eyes were goopy and infected. She has since been groomed and bathed and her she has been medicated for her eye and coat issues. They seem to be resolving very well, and she is on the tail end of her medication.

It took a day or two for this vibrant personality to bloom, and perhaps it is not yet in full bloom, but we shall say she is one unique little flower! Eloise is fine with the other dogs, but she also is quite independent and seems to pefer her people pals more. She will run, explore and charge back to check on us. She has a very special greeting, not quite a secret hand shake, but really close. She will run up to me, and quickly pitter patter her paws on my belly. It is kind of like she is patting down a mound of bread dough. Ok, it may look like bread dough to some, but I assure you it is not, lol.

We had a time getting pictures of Eloise. She is on the go when she is outside!! The long haired pic is her shelter intake, kind of her mug shot. She is truly a gorgeous girl and will be more so when her coat comes back and she puts on a few pounds. For now she is doing great, loves her food and snacks! Eloise is looking for a patient family that understands it is a healing journey for a dog that has been allowed to get into such poor condition, but she is on her way!! She also will enjoy and active family, she is quite athletic and energetic when outdoors. She walks like a dream on a leash and will be a great companion for someone that enjoys their walks/hikes as well.

Eloise is a thin 23 pounds now, is estimated to be about 5-6 years old. She will go home with plenty of supplies to help her settle into her new home. Please email Kristine at joysparrows@gmail.com. Her adoption fee is $375.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an online application on our website, sparrowdogs.com. Requirements vary as per the individual dog's needs as far as time alone, children, other pets, fenced yard vs. leash walking and such. Our adoption donations can range from $99 for less adoptable/older dogs, and higher for puppies and other highly sought after dogs(which helps us take in needy often medically challenged dogs and cats.)
Our contract states we have the right to visit the dog, check up periodically as well as take the dog back if necessary. We get first right to the dog if adopter chooses not to keep him. We want all adopters to realize this is a serious commitment and want our dogs to go to safe, loving homes.

Go meet their pets

We periodically have adoption events, check out our website for more info! But-most of our adoption do occur at our foster home where we feel the dog or cat will be much more relaxed and the adoptive family will be able to get a better idea of the dog/cats temperament.

More about this rescue

All of our pets are in foster homes, from Sheridan to Chicago, IL We take in many special needs dogs, some physically, mentally or behaviorally challenged. Some of them have been abused or neglected, many are seniors, most just need some understanding and patience. A lot of them have never heard a vacuum before or even felt a kind pat on their heads. Fostering them prepares them for the life they so richly deserve when a kind person adopts from us. When you adopt a shelter dog, you are making a giant step in reducing euthanasia for all these great dogs looking for a home. It is not their fault, it is the fault of the human that previously was involved in their life. Thanks for checking out our website, maybe you will find the pal of your dreams.
