My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there! I'm Martini, but my friends call me Tini. I'm a spayed female Lab/Shepherd mix, just a year old and weighing 55 pounds. I was found as a stray near the Mexican border when I was only three months old and ended up in an overcrowded shelter in South Texas. I was at the shelter for what seemed like forever and being a black dog, my life was at risk. Then one glorious day I was rescued! Now, I'm living with a wonderful foster family in Byron Center, MI.

I'm a bit shy when I encounter new situations, but I warm up quickly once I feel safe. I absolutely love other dogs and dream of having a furry friend to play with and help me build my confidence. I'm also very loyal and eager to please my humans. Cats don't really interest me much and I haven't met any small children yet, but my foster mom thinks my sweet nature would make me a great friend to respectful kids.

I'm proud to say I'm housebroken and crate-trained and I ride great in the car! I would be so happy in a home with a  FENCED-IN YARD where I can run and play to my heart's content. I'm already spayed, microchipped and up to date on all my vaccines and preventatives and my adoption fee is $300.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We require that the interested adopter come to meet the dog and then fill out an adoption application. We will review the application and then pass on to the dog's foster family (if applicable). We then contact the potential adopter's vet and we will also do a home visit. If all goes well, the adopter signs our adoption contract stating that, among other things, the dog will receive regular vet care and must be returned to us if things do not work out.

More about this rescue

We focus primarily on rescuing senior and special needs dogs in kill facilities. We are located on 30 acres of land in rural southern Michigan. We are a care-for-life facility, so any dog that does not or that we deem cannot be adopted will live with us for the rest of his/her life. Because we rescue the dogs that are not in high demand, it normally takes our dogs longer to find that perfect family. We believe that it takes a special family to adopt our special dogs.
