Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Hi there! I'm Athena, a sweet and goofy German Shepherd mix with gorgeous honey eyes and the floppiest ears you'll ever see.
The latest chapter of my story really began when a pair of really awesome foster moms saw me on the internet, and hearing I only had a few hours to live due to overcrowding at the shelter, they swooped in with the help of some shelter volunteers who became my friends while I lived here and sprung me. I got to go to sleep away camp with a really fun guy named John Flores, where he helped me learn some beginning leash skills and how to sleep in my crate! I finally got to move into my new crib with my foster moms, and it’s been awesome.
They let me cuddle on the couch with them, they got me a cool fuzzy ball, we go on fun adventures together and I get to ride in my own section of the car- it’s the tops.
Recently, they’ve also introduced me to another new friend Joe Garcia, who has been letting me come crash at his house to hang out and get some cool obedience skills while also learning how to make friends and be respectful with dogs of all sizes! My foster moms are still helping me work on some of my leash skills around other dogs, but I’m getting pretty good at walking if I say so myself.
Personality: Sweet & Cuddly- I aspire to be a lap dog. I have never met a stranger. Ive been great with all sizes, genders, and ages of humans. I adore playing with my ball, especially in a kiddie pool full of water. Seriously, I LOVE water! But I also love lounging around for hours watching TV or laying on a cold floor. I’m the best of both worlds! I need slow introductions to new dog and cat friends, but with guidance and patience I can be integrated into a balanced pack with an experienced handler.
My foster moms say that I’ve come a long way and that I’m ready for my forever home. If you think your lap (and heart) might have room for me, please give them a call! I can’t wait to meet you! Apply to adopt me at wishbonela.org 💖
