My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This is what my foster family says about me, please email EPASAdoptions@elpasotexas.gov with his A numberandlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;I have been fostering Dopey A0055766827 for two weeks now as he was on the At-Risk List. Donandamp;#39;t let the name fool you as this boy is smart, so Iandamp;#39;ve been calling him Bodhi which means andamp;quot;awakeningandamp;quot;. Dopey is experiencing an awakening of his own.andlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;He is:andlt;br/andgt;-potty trainedandlt;br/andgt;-crate trained (I will donate mine if needed)andlt;br/andgt;-great in the carandlt;br/andgt;-easy to batheandlt;br/andgt;-good on leash (very minimal pulling)andlt;br/andgt;-great jogging buddy, he likes to keep a steady pace right by your sideandlt;br/andgt;-nonreactive to other dogsandlt;br/andgt;- knows sit, down, and stayandlt;br/andgt;- extremely happy being a couch potatoandlt;br/andgt;-very loving, simply wants human companionshipandlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;Now where Dopey/Bodhi struggles is with meeting new people. I can see the struggle when I introduce him to someone new; he so badly wants to go to them because he loves human affection, but is afraid. So he would need a family with patience who will give him the time he needs to trust that you wonandamp;#39;t harm him. Once he trusts you, he will give you polite kisses, lay next to you on the sofa, show you his zoomies, and simply enjoy being in your presence. He can live with other dogs as long as they are calm and donandamp;#39;t want to play since Dopey/Bodhi isnandamp;#39;t the type to play. I donandamp;#39;t recommend a home with a hyper playful dog or a home with young kids. andlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;Being around a calm confident dog that he can coexist with would be good for him so he can follow their lead. Heandamp;#39;s been good around my dog, but my dog gives him his space and is also calm. Even though Dopey/Bodhi doesnandamp;#39;t want to play with my dog, he does get happy to see him since I keep them separated when I go to work. He will approach my dog and give him kisses. He would also be fine being the only dog in a home.andlt;br/andgt;andlt;br/andgt;He is 4 years old, neutered, microchipped, weighs about 68 pounds and is up to date on his vaccinations. His adoption fee is waived.andlt;br/andgt;If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting this sweet, loving boy please email EPASAdoptions@elpasotexas.gov. He is so deserving of finding his forever home.

Their adoption process

1.

Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

With hundreds of pets at the shelter and in foster, we recommend checking our website before visiting in person.

2.

Meet the Pet

We recommend bringing the whole family, including resident dogs, to meet the pet you're interested in adopting to ensure it's a good match.

3.

Sign Adoption Contract

Our adoption team will review the adoption contract with you. Adoption fees are $30 for dogs and $5 for cats unless during a special promo.

Additional adoption info

All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis and must be made in person. As a high-intake shelter, most of the pets that come to us are strays, meaning we have limited background history on the pet, such as health, behavioral or living history. All adoptions include the animal's spay/neuter procedure, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations and city license. All adoptions include a 7 day free trial with our training partner, GoodPup to help ease the transition!
