My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Sven is the smallest of the little family that was surrendered to PUP. He is playful but since his siblings out weigh him, he sometimes ends up with the short end of the stick. Sill, he wants in on the action. Sven appears to be about 8 weeks old and is a mixed breed that includes some herding dog, possibly a Kelpie or Aussie. Dogs from the area he comes from nearly always have some German Shepherd, a dash of husky, and a teaspoon of Chihuahua in their DNA. We have sent DNA in for testing on his brother and it has not come back yet. We do know a lot about him, tho. His coat was in rough shape when he arrived but it is now a lovely reddish tan with black highlights. He has the 'tail diamond' that we see so often in German Shepherd puppies. He, as well as his siblings, is quite the cuddler and he loves to be held and fussed with by his foster. He is always the first to snag a spot on your lap. He will be a mid-sized dog when full grown.

Sven and his siblings Anna and Olaf, along with their auntie Elsa, were surrendered to PUP because their owner was deeply impoverished and simply could not afford to feed them. They had all (including the people) missed a few meals before the pups were surrendered, but the pups were otherwise healthy.

Sven loves people and gets along well with other dogs. He is accustomed to going outside and does much of his pottying outdoors, but he is using newspapers reliably in the house.

The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog.

Sven has been vet checked, dewormed and had one routine vaccination. He will need two additional vaccinations plus rabies vaccination at the adopter’s expense. The $375 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by the PUP vet. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship.

If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested.
