My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi! My name is Cocoa and I'm looking for a new home. I have had rough life, but I've kept my loving heart. I don't have any allergies and I am well potty trained.

I really enjoy and need walks and exercise. My walker likes to say I have a natural heel when I walk but I like to say I just enjoy being close to you. I am adventurous but also cuddly. I hope you'll let me sleep under the covers in bed with you at night. Sometimes when I get bored, I will seek your attention by grabbing your plastic items around the house. I just like to see how fast you can catch it from me.

My first owners chained me to a porch where other dogs attacked me so I don't like being outside for long. I do love a good sunbath for a little while though. When I want to come back inside, I'll let you know by laying against the door. Due to my past experiences, I'm not a good dog to take to a dog park or a highly populated dog area. I am scared of being attacked again. I am crate trained but I don't like being left in the crate alone. I prefer to sleep on the couch while you're gone. I love toys and dog bones.

I haven't had any experience with cats since I was a baby and I do well with female dogs once I get to know them. I may bark and growl at them at first though. After that, I'll want to cuddle with them too if they let me.

I am not very fond of toddlers. They're too loud and like to put their hands in places I prefer not be touched or pulled.

Most importantly, I identify as a weighted blanket for my human so I hope you like heavy cuddles. I am very in tune with your emotions and will comfort you when you cry and cuddle with you when you're sad. I will also do a happy dance when you are happy.

Cocoa is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. All behavior and medical information is provided by their caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.

Additional adoption info

Adopting from The Love Pit means gaining a family member. It means gaining a network of pit bull advocates, ready to support you and provide you with all of the resources we can. Most importantly, adopting from The Love Pit saves lives. When you adopt, you're saving the life of your own dog, opening space in their foster home for another shelter dog in need, and creating space in the shelter kennel for a dog whose life would have otherwise been on the line. Your thanks for all the good you've done? Lots of love and pit bull kisses to enjoy for years to come.

Go meet their pets

We have monthly adoption events at different locations in Dallas and Fort Worth which are announced on our social media pages and will also be posted on our website.

We will also set up an appointment with you to meet the dog of your choosing.

More about this rescue

We are a foster/volunteer based 501c3 nonprofit dog rescue in Dallas, Texas. Our mission is to reduce the number of homeless pit bull type dogs in shelters and on the streets through rescue, rehabilitation, education, and advocacy.

Our goal is to educate the public about a breed that often falls victim to breed specific legislation, discrimination, and cruelty and promote responsible pet ownership through spay/neuter initiatives, vaccinations, and training resources.
