Meet Cantaloupe! Cantaloupe is currently a resident at Chicago Animal Care & Control and is looking for a foster home! Cantaloupe was rescued from a cruelty case among over twenty other dogs. Despite her challenging past, she is nothing but love! Have you ever thought of the definition of joyful? We think it might be a beautiful tan and white dreamboat pit mix named Cantaloupe.
Cantaloupe is an adorable girl who is at the great age of about a year and half – past the puppy crazies and ready to learn and be a very loved family member. She came from a confiscation with 22 other dogs where she never got the home she deserved from the beginning, but she has brought nothing but sunshine with her to the shelter and loves everything about her human friends! Cantaloupe would do well with a family who is ready to show her the ropes – she would like to be with you and involved in your life so would do best in a home where someone is around much of the time.
She’s a great petite size of about 45lbs, and she absolutely loves to sit with you in your chair or spot and get snuggles, and is starting to play independently and discover some toys are really fun! Despite having been in the shelter for months, she is such a positive spirit. Cantaloupe has been tested with some other dogs and while she loves her littermate brother, Brussel Sprouts, she has shown us that she’d rather be your one and only in a home. She’s not reactive on leash and is easy to walk. Every experience outside is one of curiosity, wonder, and excitement to see people, toys and treats! Three words to describe Cantaloupe: snuggly, sweet and delicious! We would love to see her get the home this little princess deserves and get on with her life.

Puppies (6 months - 1 year): $350
Adults (1 year - 9 years): $300
Seniors (10+ years old): $150
1. We require an adoption application to be completed in its entirety. Any application with questions not answered fully will not be considered complete and will not be processed.
2. We check your references and process your application.
3. Phone/email interview - we notify you that we have received your application and go over any areas of concern or speak to you more about the dog in which you are applying for.
4. Set up a meet and greet - this can be at an adoption event, in your home or at the fosters home.
5. Pet meet and greet - we make sure your current pets and your potential new family member are a good match! If you are adopting a dog that is currently with either of our trainers, we will have you bring your dog(s) to our trainer for the meet and greet. **We will not adopt a dog into a situation we do not believe the dog can handle. The dogs are our #1 priority.
6. Finalize the adoption - sign the adoption contract and pay adoption fee - we accept cash or check.
Your adoption fee covers all vaccinations, fecal test, heartworm test, etc as well as spay/neuter and microchipping. No pets will be adopted out until they have a clean bill of health from our veterinarian.

Players for Pits is a 501c3, non profit rescue that connects professional athletes to the community in order to come together to take a stand against the abuse and neglect of animals. PFP serves the western suburbs of Chicago and is a foster based rescue, so the dogs in our care are in foster homes learning the basics of being a well balanced dog versus being in cages at loud boarding facilities.
The athletes involved in our rescue actively support the rescue efforts and help by spreading the word of dogs in need. It is the mission of Players for Pits to educate dog owners about proper pet care - both physical and mental - so that the dogs in our care can be happy, well balanced members of society. It is our goal to rescue dogs from high kill shelters and place them into loving homes in the suburbs. At Players for Pits we stand up for pit bulls, who's character is routinely tarnished and often misrepresented. We recognize the pit bull for what it is: a DOG. And any dog with the right care and owners can be a wonderful pet. While we are an advocate for pit bulls, we do not discriminate based on breed and will take in other breeds if they need you help. Players for Pits is also very active in the community and we co-host clinics to help struggling families maintain their pets health, we train pit bull type dogs to become therapy dogs for children with abusive backgrounds, and we try to involve the community in our goal to reduce pet abandonment.
