My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chakra! This cutie made his way to Animal Friends through our Humane Investigations Department and through no fault of his own, has spent the last 3.5 years waiting for his court case to clear. Chakra is a staff and volunteer favorite - I mean how could he not be with a face as handsome as his? He is around 7-years-old but his age does not stop him from being a goofy, fun loving pup. He loves being outside on a sunny day where he can sunbathe while chewing on his toys and getting tons of love and pets from his favorite people!

Because Chakra had a very rough start to life, he is not able to live with any other pets. Chakra is undergoing muzzle training - which he is doing so well with! Our Behavior team will help adopters become familiar with using his muzzle to set his new family up for success. Chakra is looking for an adult-only, single pet-only home - and his ideal adopters should not live in communal housing and understand he should not go to dog parks/highly dog populated areas to help him avoid other dogs and be his best self!

Some of Chakra's best qualities are:
*He walks very well on leash, and often checks in with his handlers for snacks and treats!
*He is not a fan of the cold, meaning he'd rather be snuggled up with you on a rainy or snowy day than playing outdoors (sounds like the perfect man to us!)
*He is very affectionate, and loves to spend time snuggling up in our real life room. He may even paw at you for more pets if you stop too soon.
*While he can have his energetic streak, Chakra likes to do a lot of lounging - especially outside in warmer weather, and will even roll around on his back to show how happy he is to be spending some lazy time outdoors.

Chakra is a part of several programs, including our Foster-To-Adopt program, which means for 4 weeks our Behavior department here at Animal Friends will work with you and Chakra on his behavior and training within his new home to help him acclimate.

This dog is also a part of our Rosie's Rule program. Animal Friends has teamed up with Fi Smart Dog Collar to provide GPS-enabled dog collars for Animal Friends’ canine residents who are at an increased risk of becoming separated from their handler and not being safely reunited. These dogs may startle easily, have had a lack of human socialization or attempt to flee or hide in unfamiliar settings. Once outfitted with a Fi collar, Rosie’s Rule dogs will keep their collar through adoption along with a one-year subscription to the Fi App – at no cost to their new family.

Chakra is one of our Extra Loved residents. Although all our resident animals get plenty of love, many of them come from backgrounds where they may need a little extra care, extra attention, and extra patience. To help this special resident find their adoptive home, a generous donor has sponsored their adoption donation, to help them feel extra loved!
