Carmen is what we call a Kentucky Brown Dog! She is a medium sized mixed breed that came to us from Kentucky in June 2024. Carmen was adopted into a wonderful family with kids, where she lived for almost 4 months until there was a fire in their home and they made the difficult decision to return Carmen back to us to rehome.
Carmen is living in a foster home with one of our wonderful staff members, who has a pack of dogs that she loves. She loves every dog, really. She's a social butterfly with the other dogs, attended doggy daycare in her previous home, and has done well with small dogs, too. She loves to do zoomies around the dogs and jump on them and play.
Carmen loves her people, but she is timid and finds some people scarier than others. Carmen does seem a bit more afraid of larger men and will bark at them at first, and takes time before she trusts them. Her foster dad is her all-time favorite person, so we know she can bond with men if they give her time. Although she loved the children she lived with previously, we do think an adult only home will be best for her. She will need slow, steady introductions to new people. Predictability and routine go a really long way.
Carmen's foster says, "Carmen is so sweet!! Great with all my big dogs, will play with them and then when it's time to relax, she find a nice hard toy to chew on! She likes to follow you if you get up to go anywhere and sleeps next to you! Only had an accident the first night, gets up when wants to go out and she can hold it the whole night! Does get scared kind of easily, probably just because of what she's been through at such a young age. She runs away from the vacuum. She does do a perfect sit, and needs continued training, as she does have some puppy behaviors still. She's a great dog to have around, waiting for her furever home!!"
Carmen's adoption fee is $250. She is spayed and is up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
