My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Some people really suck 😔

Our friends at animal control got a call that a tenant moved out and left their dog behind in the apartment and this is what they found.

From his microchip we know his name is Bobby, he’s 7 years old and that’s about it. And that his owner severely neglected him for years.

He’s nervous and unsure but seems to know we want to help him. He’s clearly not had good (or any) grooming experiences and needs to be sedated to have all those painful mats shaved. He seemed to happy to see other dogs (who seemed very confused about why a dirty mop was moving 😳). He’s about 18lbs including the mats, and we think a Shih tzu/lhasa mix.

He went right to our vet for a shave down and full medical work up… and look at him now! Hard to believe they gave us back the right dog!
Just a little bit of an improvement, don’t you think?

He’s actually pretty skinny under all that hair and starving, we are working on fattening this hungry guy up. He’s friendly with other dogs and overall happy to meet people, though he has his “Lhasa”tude moments, doesn’t like sharing his food or bones and will need to get used to being groomed gradually without getting defensive. He’s 7 years old and under 20lbs with a long body, short legs, and giant head literally and figuratively.

Email njwoof@cs.com to meet Bobby in Northern NJ

Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We request that adopters fill out a pre-adoption application either in person at our adoption day or through our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com. This helps us make sure the animal's personality is a good match for your household. Adoption fees vary according to the dog's age, breed, adoptability, and how much we have had to spend in vet bill on them. Adopters sign a contract at the time of adoption, and the animal must come back to us if they do not work out in the home.
