My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Just 23 grams of pure hamster star power!

You may recognize Meryl Squeak as editor in chief of Runway Magazine, or as Miss Squeak likes to call it Runningwheel magazine. She brings all that uncompromising attention to detail and leadership prowess to all of her daily activities, including but not limited to: ensuring her home space has a relaxing and efficient layout (don't worry, if you do not set her enclosure up to her standard the first time, she will purse her lips to let you know its a travesty, and set to work rearranging her bedding, her toys and her nesting material), running on her wheel to stay fit and keep her eyes on the prize, and sleeping for 12-14 hours.

This small but mighty hamster is sure to be the star of your home!!

If Meryl Squeak sounds like the perfect hammy for you, please submit an application for her here and email it to us at duncanspca@spca.bc.ca :

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
