My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

(05/21/2022) She is happy-go-lucky girl. Not short, but fun-sized...a solid low-rider who always has love in her heart and a smile on her face. And isn't that face, the most loveable, kissable, smoochable???

She is seeking a stable relationship in a household that will provide her endless biscuits, bones and crinkle toys. She is a wild and crazy girl who is energetic at playtime. Her ultimate human would look forward to her daily wet willies and be available to stroke her soft pink belly until she falls into a deep, snoring sleep on their lap.

Her unique markings give her what almost looks like a crooked little heart shaped nose! She is white, grey and pink! Her fur is mostly all white (although she has some scattered spots and freckles) except for a dark grey left ear and two adorable matching grey stripes on her tail. Her short hair means you can see the pink skin underneath, especially on her cute belly! She also has the most fabulous white eyelashes!

She walks well on a leash for the most part, but her low center of gravity means she can have a strong pull if she spots a squirrel or lizard. Their quick movement triggers her instinct to chase. She is not aggressive and does not mean any harm, but she doesn't know her own strength, so no weaklings on the other end of the leash. Potential adopters should not have young children as she may knock them over with her joyful excitment, but older children would be great.

Her current foster family provides her a mom and dad, plus 5 fur siblings ranging in sizes from chihuahua to small pony, and she gets along with all of them. (She is also ok with cats but will chase them.) Her favorite playmate is another PFL foster named Jess. Sweet Penelope doesn't require another dog in the home, but it would be bonus. A 4ft-5ft fence would be another great find at her new home so she'd have the ability to run and play to burn off any excess energy. A home, apartment, condo or townhome would all be good for sweet, adorable Penelope as long as she has someone who is definitely willing and able to keep her busy with playtime, walks and fun activities.

Other noteworthy and great things about Penelope, she is house trained, crate trained, enjoys car rides but may try and share the front seat with you if she isn't securely fastened in her seat. Wherever you take her, she is bound to be the hit of party! She just has the face and the smile that radiates joy and people are naturally attracked to her. She loves everyone she meets and is happy to get a little bit more love and affection!

Ms. Penelope is adaptable... she will sleep on top of you, next to you or all alone on a cushion, even the bare floor or in a crate. She is well-mannered, but does need some work on commands. Her adopter(s) will be very lucky to have her as loyal and entertaining member of their family. Just looking at her sweet face makes you smile! Come meet her at an adoption event.

Ms. Penelope the Perfect Little Pittie is aboout 50lbs and ready to love you! Don't miss the opportunity to be her fur-ever family!

As part of Penelope’s $300 adoption fee, she will be spayed, microchipped, up to date on age-appropriate vaccines, and current on her monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. If you have questions about this sweet little girl, you can email  Dogteam@pawsforlifenc.org.  If you wish to adopt Penelope, you can fill in an online application for her under the Adopt a Pet Tab on our website:  www.pawsforlifenc.org.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

1. Review the description of the pet you are interested in to make sure that the information we have fits with your particular needs and desires. In most cases, the information on the website is current and gives the information that we have about the particular pet. The picture of the pet does not tell the whole story.

2. Complete the adoption application at https://pawsforlifenc.org. Please make sure that you give us as much information about yourself as you can. List all animals currently living with you including other dogs, cats, birds, reptiles, and rodents. The application needs to be complete in order to help us determine if the pet you have chosen is a good match for your home.

3. Once the application is submitted we will contact you, your references, and your vet.

4. We require a home visit prior to dog adoptions.

5. If more than one person applies, we will go with the BEST fit. If all things are equal, we go in the order the applications were received.

6. Once the home visit has been completed, you will be asked to complete an adoption agreement.

7. The adoption fee is $325 for dogs under 6 months, $300 for 6 months and older. The adoption fee is $125 for kittens under 1 year ($225 for 2 kittens), $85 for cats 1 year and older. This fee helps us to provide the necessary medical care and other needs for the pets while in foster care.

8. All Paws For Life NC pets are spayed or neutered if old enough, current on shots, micro chipped, and to our knowledge, in good health before they are adopted out. Puppies under 6 months of age will require a $100 refundable spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee and a special puppy spay/neuter agreement. Kittens under 6 months will require a $50 refundable spay/neuter deposit in addition to the adoption fee. We are all volunteers and receive no monetary compensation for our work with the pets. The adoption fee is used to help defray costs in the rescue and care of the pets.

9. Congratulations! You are on your way to having your new companion. We hope that you and your new companion share a life of love and happiness. We welcome any comments you may wish to give us about your pet at any time.
