My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sir Stewie....gentleman extraordinaire. This little nugget of love is seeking a new home after his owners lost their own. As sad as that was, we are happy to be able to give Stewie the love & care he deserves as he glides into the best years of his life....the senior years. Ahhhh, the naps in the sun, the towel rolls after a nice warm bath, the exploring of the fenced back yard thru a doggie door....life is pretty grand for Stewie. He doesn't even mind the chickens on his foster's small farm. (Y'all should see her chickens - they are something to be proud of & totally boss the dachshunds. HAHA.)

Stewie is an independent but lovable boy. He is house trained and sleeps in a bed of his own with a nice blanket. He enjoys his personal space. He likes to talk to his people and will seek out attention. He is very smart & communicative. He also lets us know when he's done snuggling by wiggling around and asking to get down. (He very polite about it but says his programs are over & it's time to explore the perimeter.) Stewie absolutely adores spending time outside lounging, sniffing, occasionally meandering (hence the fence), and generally soaking in the glory of the day.

When Stewie arrived at DREAM, his eyes & skin were a hot mess, along with a kidney infection. Glaucoma had taken its toll and he lost the right eye. He feels SO much better now on all fronts. He couldn't see from that eye anyway and it was causing him so much pain. He also had a dental and got all his vaccines & medical needs tended to. Like most dachshunds, Stewie does have a heart murmur, but he does not require any medication for that at this time. His skin is in much better condition as well, now that he's got a steady & healthy diet. Stewie does have very cloudy vision in his left eye due to a cataract, but he makes it around quite well via his nose. Nothing slows him down, which is one of his best characteristics. He would make an absolutely wonderful companion.

If you are interested in adopting Stewie, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to our online adoption application. Stewie's adoption fee is $300.

All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Stewie will go to his / her new home microchipped, spayed/neutered, heartworm tested, up to date on vaccinations, and with all other medical needs addressed.

Almost every dog's veterinary expenses exceed our adoption fees; we are a non-profit.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group. We focus on the metro Atlanta area and can assist throughout the state of Georgia.

Since our rescue is entirely run and staffed by volunteers, our ability to travel long distances for adoptions is somewhat limited. We focus on Georgia, but if you are in a neighboring state, we might be able to work something out - we'll expect you to do your part.

DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.

More about this rescue

We envision a time when every dachshund in Georgia has a loving home for its entire life. We believe that the welfare of our companion animals is an indication of the health of our society. We see the current welfare of our companion animals as a disease. To treat the symptoms of this disease, we rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dachshunds in need. To treat the causes of this disease, we educate the public on compassionate dog guardianship of any breed. We want to have a deep, direct impact in a limited geographic area, rather than a small impact in a large geographic area.
