We have quite the tail to tell you...
This is Snow and he has really been through the ringer. Fortunately, he was sent a H-E-A-R-T guardian angel.
A H-E-A-R-T Volunteer, who is a Police Officer happened to respond to a call for service for an "aggressive" Husky a few weeks ago. Upon arrival the dog was clearly stressed out but he was able to leash him and put him in a down without incident. The owner had purchased the dog earlier that day off of craigslist. He claimed the dog was going crazy in the apartment and biting at his arms. He wanted the dog removed. So the police took the dog to Animal Control, per protocol.
Animal Control spoke with that owner plus the original owner. The person who purchased Snow off of Craigslist did not require any medical attention. The prior owner claimed she had to rehome Snow because she was relocating and that he had lived harmoniously with her young children but could be mouthy.
But do you now know what that means for Snow? It means he has a bite history! Not understanding a dog or exasperating a situation can alter the course of an animal's life. Snow is a young, energetic dog who needs lots of exercise and stimulation. If an outlet is not provided, it's natural he could become frustrated.
So now Snow had to do a bite quarantine at Animal Control. That means he is confined to a small space and not able to be handled by Volunteers, but only by shelter staff.
We became invested in Snow because of the connection to H-E-A-R-T. We continued to keep tabs on Snow during this difficult time for him. Because he'd been labeled, we feared he'd be euthanized. But the shelter staff listened to our Volunteer's initial observations, and quickly became invested in his well being, too.
After his quarantine the shelter evaluated him and determined he was only able to leave with a rescue partner. That means he's not able to be adopted by the general public due to his bite label. When we were able to interact with Snow we quickly realized he's not a Husky after all! While he has a Husky head, he has the body of a Samoyed. Possibly a Samsky mix.
So we began to advocate for him with local Sammy groups. One group responded and even evaluated Snow, but didn't pull him. In the meantime we continued to help clear the shelter of their Huskies. We happened to post one of the other dogs we pulled and one of our long time, experienced, committed Fosters commented that he would be willing to foster that dog. Since we already had that dog in foster care, a light bulb went off!
Maybe we could help Snow after all!!!
Only one hurdle remained. We are not permitted by our insurance to rescue bite cases. After speaking with our insurance broker, and being able to provide first hand knowledge of the non-existent aggressive bite, we were given the green light.
So we sprang Snow outta jail! Both his intake and outtake were at H-E-A-R-T hands. ❤️
We have learned what the second owner experienced is a young, mouthy dog who needs to learn manners. But this is NOT an aggressive dog, and he is great with other canines! So we have some work cut out for us, but that won't stop us... we've been advocating for Snow since the moment he came into our H-E-A-R-Ts.
If anyone is interested in adopting Snow, we recommend you have experience with working breeds. While his mouthy play behavior has gotten better, we would recommend a home with no children under 12 years of age. He will need a strong owner who can set appropriate boundaries, structure and expectations with him. He will also need a home with other medium/large breed dogs. Snow needs that pack mentality to thrive. He is also an affectionate boy who loves to give hugs and cuddles and sleeps with his foster dad. He will also need an owner who can keep him appropriately exercised and stimulated.

His foster family reports Snow is:
Mostly housebroken
Crate Trained
High energy
Pulls on a leash
Good with other dogs
Needs a fenced yard
Allowed on furniture

Snow is located in MD. We are able to transport to neighboring states or anyone wishing to adopt can come to MD. He is 11 months old, neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative and microchipped. Snow is ready for a home where he can continue to learn and flourish.

~~Husky Education And Rescue Team is a foster based rescue. Our dogs are in our foster homes all up and down the east coast. We do not have a facility in which you can visit. We find this a huge benefit because we learn our dogs and are able to educate our adopters on what it’s like to have them live in your home. Part of our process, once pre-approved, is to speak with the foster for the dog you’re interested in. If you’re still interested in adopting from our rescue the first step is to complete our adoption application online at www.huskyrescueteam.org/apply

More about this rescue

We are a 501(c) (3) nonprofit animal rescue organization. Our organization saves, rehabilitates, and rehomes Siberian Huskies (and other breeds of dogs) who are abandoned and are in kill shelters. We provide medical and behavioral services and rehome them to compatible families. We do this through volunteer efforts. Most of the dogs in need will come from the Southern States where the shelter kill rate is higher. We have a network of foster homes along the East Coast, while our adoption locations can be found in Maryland and New Jersey.
