1223379 - Asha is a sweet and friendly 1-ish yr old, 42lbs Pit mix. Very smart, curious and eager to snuggle. She plays well with her foster sisters but has a relatively high prey drive and might not do well with cats. She is crate trained for when you are away, as she still has a curious puppy mouth. She is potty trained, goes pee/poop on command when she has access to the outside, but she is still learning leash etiquette. Asha would do well in a home with another dog similar to her size and age, or with an owner that can provide her with lots of exercise and activity, 2-3+ hours daily.
Things to know! -
-Asha is very smart and curious and would benefit greatly from invested training!
-Based on her behavior of pulling away, shrinking, trying to hide any time there is a loud noise, she bumps into something, I lift my hands up etc; its very clear that she received some abuse and neglect prior to her arriving at the Roswell Shelter. Initially she had some shelter shock but once she got over that and her personality started to come out I witnessed little regressions that made it clear it was more than just being at the shelter. In addition to this she had a little bit of food possessiveness that probably came from being under fed/neglected. She has since put on weight and is learning that everyone gets fed what they need. I can now put my hands in her bowl, touch and kiss her while eating, take it away with absolutely no incident. I have yet to feed her tandem with my dogs though, mealtime separation is probably best till a routine is figured out and she feels safe in her new home. She does well sharing treats and toys.
-Due to her prior abuse it is best if her training doesn’t consist of any harsh negative reinforcement or loud commands. This tends to cause her to recoil and ignore you. She responds REALLY WELL to calm, focused and intuitive directions. She also loves treats and is easily motivated by them :)
-I would not recommend her as a “first dog” for someone and she’d probably do better without small children she could run over.
-She has a very sweet demeanor but she is still a young bully mix and will use her weight and strength when she isn’t interested in doing what you say. Still testing/learning boundaries.
-She will probably fill out to 47-50lbs when full grown
