My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Are you looking for a sweet but shy girl that would love to be loved? Well look no further as Sapphire is here! This pretty girl just wants to snuggle with the people she knows. She would make the perfect companion for someone that likes to take walks but also loves to curl up on the couch.

**Sapphire has a discounted adoption fee to help find her furrever home! Please note that applicants are still required to follow our adoption process and meet the requirements of this pet in order to be approved to adopt**

~ Sapphire is looking for an active home that will be able to bring her on lots of adventures
~ Sapphire can be nervous and shy with new people and will need her new family to go slow with her
~ This sweet girl is looking for a home with adults or near adult age children due to her nervousness
~ She is looking for a house type home rather than an apartment and new things and places are scary to her
~ Sapphire would love to find herself a quiet home she can call her own
~ She will need to be signed up for training prior to adoption to help her build her confidence and learn her big girl manners

Regularly Exhibited Behaviours Noticed:
- High Energy
- Nervous/Shy
- Touch Sensitivity
- Very Fearful/Nervous
- Mouthy
- Jumpy
- Reactivity
- Under-Socialized
- Vocal

Explanation of Behaviours:
- Sapphire is an active and high energy dog, her new family will need to provide her plenty of daily exercise, enrichment and training.
- Sapphire can be nervous of new people, in new environments and in new situations. Her new family will need to be patient and help her become more comfortable with these things and help her build her confidence.
- Sapphire can be touch sensitive specifically with new people or when she is anxious/stressed. Her new family will need to slowly work on creating positive associations to touch.
- When comfortable with people Sapphire can become jumpy, mouthy and/or pushy for interactions or attention.
- Sapphire is under-socialized and will need proper positive socialization to the world around her at a pace she is comfortable with.
- Sapphire has shown to be reactive at times which results in her being vocal towards whatever is triggering her.

This dog would benefit from:
- Active but quieter home
- Family of adults or near age children
- Lots of training and socialization
- Lots of time and attention
- No Apartments

Training needs/behaviours that need to be worked with for this dog:
- Basic training
- Basic manner (jumping up, pushy interactions and mouthing)
- Socialization
- Sensitivity to touch and new things
- Reactivity

* Sapphire is taking applications only at this time which will be reviewed by our Canine Team to ensure we find the right home for Sapphire. *

**Please remember that animals are coming back from foster care to the centres for their meet and greets. They will be experiencing a new environment and meeting new people, which means they may not exhibit the same behaviours they did in their foster videos or while in foster care.

Additional adoption info

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
