My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Autumn was brought in by his previous owner on June 8, 2024, 2024.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Autumn arrived as an undersocialized kitten and has been displaying shy and fearful behavior in our care. He is required to go home with another cat, as having a social companion will greatly aid in him socialization process. Autumn would thrive best in a home with another friendly, confident cat that can help him adjust and feel secure. If you prefer a more independent and reserved pet, you may consider adopting Autumn along with his sibling Spring #908584. Autumn will do best in a calm and quiet environment with minimal foot traffic. She will likely need an extended period to decompress and feel comfortable in his new surroundings. Building trust with Autumn should be a gentle process, focusing on bonding through toys, treats, and food rather than direct handling. It's important to provide Autumn with safe hiding spots and elevated areas where he can retreat and feel safe. Discussing the room setup to accommodate his needs is essential. Additionally, a household without children or dogs would be ideal for Autumn, ensuring he has the peace and quiet he needs to flourish. By offering Autumn the right environment and companionship, you can help this shy kitten gradually come out of his shell and find his place in his new home.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
