My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Tom Nook loves his human friends- familar, new, and old... he doesn't discriminate!
There are also many other things to love about Tom, here are just a few I (his foster mom) have come to love about this sweet boy:

  • He sleeps in – this is my heaven, a dog that lets me sleep in on the weekends and doesn't make me feel guilty if I want that extra 30min! The trade off - we go for a nice walk after to get our morning beverage. Not a bad trade off at all.

  • He's the best office / work studio buddy  – He just loves being around the sounds of people, he doesn't crave or need attention, neither is he in your face ... he just snoozes till it's time for his afternoon walk + ball time (and a good reminder of your work break!) ... and then he's back to chill time till you're ready to go home. He truly is the best at this.,

  • He's pretty independent – he's pretty cat-like when it comes to attention-seeking. He's not over-zealous to greet you (where you worry that he'll wreck your clothes in the process), but he'll do a sweet little trot over with his favorite toy of the moment with his wiggly butt and tail. He's pretty low-key when it comes to rest time and while he's 100% happy to get your attention, sometimes I think he actually likes his personal space.

  • 100% house-trained - this boy keeps your house exactly the way it is. I think my petcam glitched out sometimes because he hasn't moved for hours! If I'm leaving him for an extended time (3-5 hrs), I take him for a walk, settle him down with a bone and I always promise him a walk together when I get back. I've never had a single accident.

  • "Fetch" Professional  - this sweet hippo is made for playing fetch in a yard / field. He loves his tennis balls, basket balls, squash balls, ANY ball. He's always down for a game of fetch and is a very good at "drop it"

  • Great outdoor buddy - I've taken this boy on 3-6 mile hikes and he LOVES it. We've been in heavy rain or full sunshine, he doesn't mind one bit. He's also a good swimmer. He truly loves taking a break sometimes and sniffing at the wind... the slower things in life! His really short coat also makes it very easy to check for ticks.

  • Commands known well - Sit / Down / Stay (or Wait) / Slow (if he's walking too fast) / Let's Go or OK (heel) / Hello or Paw

  • He Communicates-  He makes the cutest pig grunts when he's trying to communicate that it's time to walk or play. He snout nudges your hand when he wants affection and cuddles. He groans a little when you're taking too long! This boy doesn't ask for much, but when he wants your love or attention, he has the cutest ways of telling you :)

With every beautiful souldog comes things he's still working on. His past is a difficult one, and shelter life has been very taxing on him. He didn't get out very much in his previous life and when he was surrendered to the shelter, he was SO stressed from being thrown into such a drastic contrast in environment where he was surrounded by so many dogs at once in such close proximity. This really took a toll on him and he was really struggling! It's been almost 3 months with this boy, and he's really come out of his shell (as seen above!!) but healing trauma is slow and will need your continued kindness, patience, and acceptance.

  • He is monogamous - while he loves ALL your human friends, he prefers to be the only dog in the house

  • Sensitive to noise - He is very alert to outside noises (city noises such as loud yelling, sirens, "pops", barking) and while this may be helpful in certain environments (where these noises aren't so frequent), this boy is best in a quieter neighborhood, the further out the city, the better!

  • Not great with other dogs - for very obvious reasons mentioned in his past.

Everyday, Tom makes me laugh and every week I learn something more to love about him! And while the list of "things-to-love" keeps growing, the list of "things to work on" has not grown since I got him.

If Tom seems like he'll fit your lifestyle, we SO look forward to meeting you and I hope he can be your lucky dog!
