My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Attention potential adopters!  If you have been looking for a dog with personality, your search is OVER.  Meet (drum roll) …. Camden!  Cam is a Shepard mix that will surely steal your heart.  And bonus - he's gorgeous!  When Camden came to TRC, he was DIRTY.  So, his foster mom set to work to give him the lovin’ he deserves.  With a few bathes, daily brushing and lots of shedding now his coat is soft and shiny.  Everyone stops to compliment him on how striking he is when they take him on walks.  And he loves his daiily walks!  If he sees a rabbit or squirrel he will perk up, watch intently, but does not pull.  However, if he sees a small critter and is unleashed…. the chase is on! If he can take his blinders off enough to listen, he will respond to "Cam Come!" And then looks at you like “Mom, mom!  Did you see the thing? I almost had it!!”

While Cam would prefer to sleep on the living room floor, he does sleep in his kennel with no complaints.  He is very intelligent (and very treat motivated!) and knows the command “kennel up”.  He also knows "no" and "come".  He is currently learning "down", "off" (no jumping), "sit”, and “shake”.  Mr. Cam is considered high energy and will need an individual or family that can provide him adequate mental & physical stimulation. He currently goes on 3-4 walks/day and when he’s ready (maybe you aren’t, but that doesn’t matter to him) he will bring YOU the leash as if to ask, “are we going or what?”  His favorite toy is his KONG. Pack it full of kibble/peanut butter mixture, freeze it, and it will keep him entertained.  He likes to chew on tennis balls but take note: Cam does not fetch! He thinks it's dumb. He doesn’t understand it.  Fetching is for retrievers, which he is not!  While Cam’s energy level is high, he is very affectionate. He follows his foster mama around the house, never straying much further than three feet away from her.  And he likes to lay his head in her lap at night to wind down for bed.

Camden is a very friendly dog who seems to make friends wherever he goes.  If he comes across another doggo that isn’t having such a great day, he just sits down and passively lays his ears back.  He has meet kids from preschoolers to teens and has passed with flying colors.  Given his reaction to small critters, a no cat household rule needs to apply for Sir Camden.

A few other notes other notes on Camden

  • He is not very vocal.  Unless his ball rolls under the chair and he can’t get it.  Then barking is 100% appropriate!

  • He loves car rides!  And riding in the truck too.  But his favoriate?  The convertible of course!  So if you have wheels that will let this boy's ears fly, you might just win his heart!

  • Camden used to say “no thanks” to stairs.  But as part of his growth in his foster home, now he is a master of all the stairs!

He's a quirky boy, we know.  But that’s our Cam for ya!

Additional adoption info

We want to be sure that the adoption process is as smooth and positive an experience as possible. Our animals are in foster homes and we do everything we can to learn as much about their likes and dislikes, temperament and activity level as we can while in our care. By doing so, it enables us to work more closely with a potential adopter to help ensure a "good fit." The adoption process might take a bit longer than adopting from a shelter, but our ultimate goal is finding a match that benefits not just the animal, but also the family interested in adopting.

We are looking to let our adopters chose the speed of the adoption process. To start the process, we require that an adoption application be completed. Once submitted, we will connect with you to discuss the type of animal you're looking for, your lifestyle and home environment, and what the best fit may be. At times, we may request to conduct a home visit, which can often be done in tandem with what we refer to a "meet and greet" where you have the opportunity to meet and interact with the animal(s) you're interested in adopting. Ad part of our process we conduct background check on all applicants, will check personal and vet references also. Our goal is always the proper placement for any adopted animal, which may mean that the animal you originally are interested in may turn out to not be the best fit, but we will work with you to find a better match. Adoption fees include spaying/neutering of all animals, age appropriate vaccinations ad microchipping and range anywhere from $80-$175 for cats and $200-$450 for dogs.

Prior to finalizing adoptions we require a signed Contract & Agreement which includes an understanding that if for any reason the animal does not work out that you will return them back to The Rescue Crew.

Go meet their pets

As all of our animals are in private foster homes, we do not have a facility where adoptable animals can be met. However, we do host adoption events occasional throughout the Twin Cities metro area, and those will be posted both on our website and Facebook pages.

More about this rescue

We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit Minnesota-based animal rescue organization which strives to prevent the unnecessary euthanasia of companion animals by finding them loving forever homes. The Rescue Crew was established specifically to fill a need in the local Twin Cities metro area to help shelter animals facing imminent risk of euthanasia without rescue support.

OUR MISSION: We are here to help save the lives of companion animals in need. Those who are homeless; the abused or abandoned; the neglected and unloved, and to show them human compassion and kindness, ultimately helping them become valued family members in a loving home.

OUR VISION: We envision the day where every adoptable animal has the opportunity of finding a responsible, loving home. A world where pets are no longer mistreated, abused or abandoned.
