My story

Meet Baxter!

Breed: Hound Mix
Age: 3 years old
Weight: 60 lbs

Baxter is a very happy boy with a zest for life that is sure to bring joy to any home. He adores playing with toys, often tossing them around with playful enthusiasm. Although he is very affectionate and loves receiving attention, he's yet to master the art of giving kisses—consider it a work in progress!

Personality and Behavior:
Baxter loves the outdoors but equally enjoys the comfort of home. He’s always excited for walks, though he might pull and zigzag a bit—nothing unmanageable with a little patience and training. Baxter is curious about cats but doesn’t pay them much attention. He loves meeting new people and dogs, although he can be a bit shy at first.

Temperament:
Baxter has shown no aggression whatsoever. While he might get a bit nosey around other dogs’ food or treats, he hasn’t shown any signs of trying to take them. He's housebroken, although he did mark his territory during the first few days in his foster home but has been good since.

Energy and Manners:
Baxter gets super excited when seeing people or dogs for the first time, sometimes flailing around and jumping over other dogs. Staying calm helps him settle down. He is crate-trained and is not destructive when left alone, although he may move pillows and rugs around.

Health:
Baxter is in excellent health, heartworm negative, up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and neutered. He seems to be at an ideal weight and size.

Training:
Baxter doesn’t know any basic commands yet but is crate-trained. With his happy and eager-to-please nature, he would likely benefit from some training classes to harness his energy and improve his leash manners.

Compatibility:
Baxter is good with cats, dogs, and kids. He is curious about cats but doesn’t bother them and loves playing with other dogs. He did well with children at a recent event, but his exuberance may be too much for very small children.

Fun Facts:
Baxter is always smiling, with bright light-colored eyes that light up his face. When he’s feeling affectionate, he’ll roll all over you, lay his head on you, and look at you with a heart-melting smile.

Ideal Home:
Baxter would thrive with an active family who can provide him with plenty of affection and exercise. He has a moderate energy level and adapts well to different environments, making him a good fit for many types of homes.

Adoption Details:
Baxter’s adoption fee is $250. Home visits are required and non-negotiable. For more information, please contact The London Sanctuary at foster@thelondonsanctuary.com or reach out on Facebook or Instagram.

Baxter is ready to bring love, joy, and lots of smiles to his forever home! Could that be with you?

More about this rescue

The London Sanctuary (TLS) focuses on providing a safe haven for elderly and unwanted Beagles and Hound Dogs, as well as other at-risk, large to medium-sized breeds, as space and funds permit. Special consideration is given to hounds of all types, which are also greatly at risk in northeast Florida.

• TLS rescues, rehabilitates, and re-homes as many dogs from area shelters as possible. Our priority is to save dogs most at-risk of euthanasia in shelter facilities.
• TLS attempts to place dogs through online pet-listing services and forums, and social media.
• TLS thoroughly screens prospective owners with home and veterinary reference checks.
• TLS houses a limited number of dogs as care-for-life dogs that cannot be placed either due to age and/or medical conditions.
• TLS provides ongoing support and education to all adopters.
• TLS spays/neuters and gives required immunizations and necessary medical treatment to all dogs prior to placement.
