How would you describe the cat's general personality? Ollo is friendly, cuddly, playful, and curious. He is tolerant and sweet with a big personality. Does the cat enjoy being pet? If yes, on what parts of its body does the cat like to be pet? Yes! Ollo loves to be pet anywhere. Belly and paws included! Are there any parts of its body that the cat does NOT like being touched? No. The only exception is if he has a tangle or mat in his coat that is uncomfortable. Once removed, nothing is off limits. Does the cat come on your lap? Not on his own. Does the cat like to be held? He doesn’t ask for it but he seems to enjoy it or at least not mind it. Does the cat sleep in your bed? Yes, under the covers in my arms :) Does the cat seek your attention? Yes Does the cat like to play? Yes, a thousand percent yes!!!! What are the cat's favorite games and toys? Ollo loves his feather wand toy and loves to jump in the air to chase it! He also likes ribbons. How vocal is the cat? Pretty chatty. What kinds of sounds does the cat make? Ollo will meow and trill at me when seeking attention or playtime. If he has lost me or I have gone to bed too early for his liking, he will yowl until I call him into bed with me. He has hissed on occasion when being pushed away from places he wants to explore, as there is one room that is off limits for him in my home. Does the cat scratch a scratcher? If no, please explain. Occasionally, but I have only seen this once. From my experience he’s not a big scratcher. Does the cat always use the litter box? Yes . Does the cat ever swat (claws in) at you? No. Has the cat ever scratched (claws out) you? No. D oes the cat ever nip (teeth without breaking skin) you? No. Has the cat ever bitten you (breaking skin)? No. To the best of your knowledge, how does the cat react to new people? Social? Fearful? Friendly, social, relaxed and tolerant. I’ve never seen him hide or shy away from pets. Does that cat have any cute/quirky traits that aren’t covered by the previous questions? Ollo is a bit clumsy for a cat, which can be pretty goofy considering his playtime acrobatics. He will jump into the air, then flop over on landing because he got too enthusiastic. He’s just very into hunting his toy! He also is very snuggly, and will look at you in disbelief if you take too long lifting up the covers for him to crawl underneath in bed. He is so loving to both of his foster-moms, and will walk back in forth between us on the couch asking for pets and a kiss on the head! I n your opinion, what is the best thing about the cat? Why should an adopter choose THIS cat to adopt? Ollo is friendly, active, confident, and happy go lucky! He is snuggly but not anxious on his own, well mannered, and easy to handle. He’s high energy enough to play or explore, but sweet enough to climb into bed for cuddles. What are the cat's challenges and how have you found to best manage them? As I said, Ollo is very high energy. This can lead to some nocturnal activities or inappropriate play behavior (like stalking feet or hands) if not managed during the day. We have found that 5-6 intense play sessions daily has been a good number for him to be happy and relaxed. Ollo also is a long haired cat who is shaved right now, but he still struggles a bit keeping up with his fluffy coat. He needs to be brushed often, but doesn’t love it. I have been trying to make brushing an enjoyable experience for him and have made sure to check for mats or tangles before grooming to minimize his discomfort. I have had to cut 2 mats out of his armpit area which he was not comfortable with me brushing (no protest, just wouldn’t lay still).
*During his first week in Foster Care (5/17/24), in a different Foster home, Ollo bit and scratched two Volunteers. Ollo was moved to a larger Foster home and has blossomed with more space and structured play. Black Cat Rescue will be happy to discuss how to keep Ollo feeling happy and safe with any interested adopters!
