Forget-Me-Nots are small, sometimes missed, flowers that symbolize true love, loyalty, and remembrance. At the Maryland SPCA, we classify a pet as a Forget-Me-Not to highlight an animal that may have some extra considerations for potential adopters to be aware of. Even though this pet may need a little extra TLC in order to fully bloom, we know they are still a strong candidate for adoption and they're sure to bring true love and loyalty into their new family. We hope you'll remember these beautiful creatures when you consider adopting.
Meet Darlene, a sweet and energetic pup who has journeyed to our shelter from another in search of her forever home. After successfully raising her babies and sending them off to be adopted, Darlene is now ready to find a family of her own. This playful gal has a heart full of love and a zest for life, always seen with the wiggliest butt in the shelter. Her boundless energy and love for toys make her the perfect companion for someone who can match her playful spirit.
Despite her affectionate nature, Darlene has shown some stress and social deficits around other dogs, making her best suited for a home where she can be the only furry friend. As a former mom, she was quick to embrace the independence of her puppies, eager to see them off to their new lives. Darlene thrives in an adult-only home where her new family can understand her body language and provide the gentle, respectful handling she needs. With the right environment, Darlene is sure to leave the shelter life behind and flourish in a loving home.

More about this shelter
The Maryland SPCA connects wonderful pets to loving owners. We are not affiliated with any national animal organization, and we do not receive any government or United Way funding. Our mission is to prevent cruelty and neglect of animals through fostering the humane relationship between animals and people. We operate primarily in the Greater Baltimore Metropolitan area.
To make sure that our dogs and cats do not contribute to the pet overpopulation problem, every one is spayed or neutered before going into a new home. The cost is included in the adoption fee, as are the costs of shots and other necessary care. In addition, a free Positive Pooch class is available to our dog adopters.
There is no set time limit for how long an animal can remain in our adoption program. As long as an animal maintains general good health and a sound temperament, we keep him or her until adopted. We pride ourselves on providing premium care to the animals in a clean, pleasant environment. Our adoption staff works diligently to pair up adopters with the best animal match for their homes and lifestyles.
We transport animals from other shelters to our adoption center to help more animals get adopted. We also help pet owners find new homes for their pets so their animals don’t need to enter shelter care.
