My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Mary was rescued by the Humane Law Enforcement Team on 5/21/2024.

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. Here is a wonderful update on how Mary is doing in her foster home!

Why Mary is the one for you:
Mary is a sweet and playful cat who has made remarkable progress since joining her foster home in July. Initially a shy girl who only ventured out at night to play, her love of treats-especially Churu and Temptations-has helped her build confidence and spend more time near her people.
Now, Mary enjoys lounging nearby and will even join in on playtime for short bursts. She adores head and neck scratches, though she prefers the gentle touch of a comb or brush over hands. When being combed, she blissfully stretches out, purrs, and makes adorable air biscuits, showing how much she loves the attention.
Mary is still a bit sensitive to loud noises, like running water, but her curious nature shines through when she sees other animals through a gate. She would thrive in a quiet, patient home with an adopter who understands cat body language and is willing to let her bloom at her own pace. With her fun and endearing personality, Mary is sure to bring warmth and joy to her forever home.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
