How this pet arrived:
Mary was rescued by the Humane Law Enforcement Team on 5/21/2024.

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. Here is a wonderful update on how Mary is doing in her foster home!

Why Mary is the one for you:
Mary is a sweet and playful cat who's made wonderful progress since joining her foster home in July. Initially, she was shy, hiding during the day and coming out only at night to play with her toys. But thanks to her love of treats-especially Churu and Temptations-Mary has slowly started to venture out more, spending time near her people, albeit at a bit of a distance.

Today, Mary enjoys laying nearby and will even engage in play for short periods. She loves head and neck scratches but still prefers them from an object like a comb or brush rather than a hand. When she's being combed, she'll happily plop on her side, stretch, purr, and make air biscuits, clearly enjoying the gentle attention.

Though still sensitive to noises like running water, she's shown curiosity rather than fear toward other animals she's seen through a gate. A quiet, patient adopter who understands cat body language and respects her pace would be ideal for Mary. She's a lovely cat with a fun personality, and in a supportive home, she'll continue to blossom and bring joy.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
