My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Poco, a resilient young dog who has overcome the odds and is ready to embark on a new chapter in life. Poco's journey began in a hoarding situation, where she faced adversity but has shown remarkable strength and resilience.

Before entering the shelter, Poco had a litter of puppies, highlighting her nurturing nature and maternal instincts. Despite her past experiences, Poco is now ready to focus on herself and find a loving forever home where she can receive the care and attention she deserves.

One aspect to consider is Poco's reactivity towards strangers. This behavior may stem from fear or uncertainty due to her past experiences and will require patience and understanding from her new family. With time, positive reinforcement training, and gradual exposure to new people, Poco can learn to feel more comfortable and secure in social situations.

Potential adopters for Poco should be prepared to provide a supportive and patient environment where she can continue to heal and build trust at her own pace. A quiet household with experienced dog owners who can provide structure, routine, and gentle guidance would be ideal for Poco.

Despite her past challenges, Poco's resilience and gentle nature shine through, making her a wonderful companion for the right family. With patience, love, and dedicated care, Poco is sure to thrive and bring endless joy to her forever home.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
