Our boy Cucumber is like a delish golden graham cracker – chunky pit bod married with an adorable worried face that makes him irresistible! He’s approximately four years old and about 60lbs, but has been a great leash walker and never mouthy with treats or his toys. Despite coming from a home with 22 other dogs in deplorable conditions and being kept in a cage far too small for him, he has maintained a positive outlook and exudes best friend vibes every day.
The ideal family for Cucumber would be active yet enjoy relaxing evenings together on the couch. A yard would be a bonus as Cucumber has discovered the joy of toys and balls for the first time in his life, especially those with ropes. He loves to play for hours and then splonk up next to you while you unwind with a good book. Cucumber would do best in a home with older kids and has shown his gentle nature side to CACC volunteers. He has also made some female dog friends in playgroup and does well with proper introductions. In three words, Cucumber can be described as best bud material. We hope you see this happy boy the way we do and consider giving him a chance so you too can experience the joy and love he has to offer.

Adoption Fees:
Puppies (12 weeks old - 6months): $400
Puppies (6 months - 1 year): $350
Adults (1 year - 9 years): $300
Seniors (10+ years old): $150
1. We require an adoption application to be completed in its entirety. Any application with questions not answered fully will not be considered complete and will not be processed.
2. We check your references and process your application.
3. Phone/email interview - we notify you that we have received your application and go over any areas of concern or speak to you more about the dog in which you are applying for.
4. Set up a meet and greet - this can be at an adoption event, in your home or at the fosters home.
5. Pet meet and greet - we make sure your current pets and your potential new family member are a good match! If you are adopting a dog that is currently with either of our trainers, we will have you bring your dog(s) to our trainer for the meet and greet. **We will not adopt a dog into a situation we do not believe the dog can handle. The dogs are our #1 priority.
6. Finalize the adoption - sign the adoption contract and pay adoption fee - we accept cash or check.
Your adoption fee covers all vaccinations, fecal test, heartworm test, etc as well as spay/neuter and microchipping. No pets will be adopted out until they have a clean bill of health from our veterinarian.

Players for Pits is a 501c3, non profit rescue that connects professional athletes to the community in order to come together to take a stand against the abuse and neglect of animals. PFP serves the western suburbs of Chicago and is a foster based rescue, so the dogs in our care are in foster homes learning the basics of being a well balanced dog versus being in cages at loud boarding facilities.
The athletes involved in our rescue actively support the rescue efforts and help by spreading the word of dogs in need. It is the mission of Players for Pits to educate dog owners about proper pet care - both physical and mental - so that the dogs in our care can be happy, well balanced members of society. It is our goal to rescue dogs from high kill shelters and place them into loving homes in the suburbs. At Players for Pits we stand up for pit bulls, who's character is routinely tarnished and often misrepresented. We recognize the pit bull for what it is: a DOG. And any dog with the right care and owners can be a wonderful pet. While we are an advocate for pit bulls, we do not discriminate based on breed and will take in other breeds if they need you help. Players for Pits is also very active in the community and we co-host clinics to help struggling families maintain their pets health, we train pit bull type dogs to become therapy dogs for children with abusive backgrounds, and we try to involve the community in our goal to reduce pet abandonment.
